I just got into Magic the card game a couple months ago, and I'm loving every second of it! I love using my imagination when I play my creatures and spells, but that may just be the dork in me acting out. Does anyone else play? Perhaps we could share tips, card info, etc ! I've already created 6 decks (I've split three boxes from kamigawa set so far): a rat/ninja (blue/black) deck, a spirit/arcane spell deck (red/black), a spirit/arcane deck (green), yet another spirit deck (blue/white), a snake deck (green, with admittedly a samurai - but the only green samurai and he kicks ass!), and a wizard/shaman deck (blue/red). I'm in the process of a demon/ogre deck (red/black), a fox/? deck (white), and a goblin deck (red).

I have a bunch of fun cards, too. Like Sway of the Stars, which wipes the board of any permanents and the players discard their hand and graveyard, and each life total is bumped to 7 (takes 10 mana though!). I also have one that lets me stay in the game even if I have negative life. Another I have is a Genju enchant land that turns a land into an 8/12 spirit with trample (requires 1 mana of every color though!).

I love Magic! Woo! (the financial aspect of it is nice, too, although my most expensive card I got in a booster was Kokusho, which I can just get 13 bucks for)

Yeah, I play Magic. Love it too. But I'm a budget player, ie. I own few decks, and use as few rares as possible. Don't exactly have the financial ability to play big.

I'm also an oldschool player (okay, not as old as Alliances, etc. if the oldest cards I use in my decks are from Tempest, does it count?). Thus, I have a Domain (5-colour) deck, a goblin deck (red), a rebel deck (white), a budget draw-go (blue), Spikes deck (red/green) and discard deck (black/red).

Magic: The gathering was fun back in the days. The newer cards now are too overpowered for my old cards, and the deck of mine that used to beat everything can now actually have a hard time against a beginner's deck with a few boosters.

I'm always up for a game, though. It's not bad or anything. I still play with my old mates.

Yeah, I don't like playing with people who use the new cards. Ths new cards have kind of... screwed the old gamers up. Not only financially, but gameplay-wise too.

I know it exists on the web or can be bought on CD. In this case it can be played with the same restrictions on each player, or without having a deck.

Or just get Magic Workstation. A decent program for playing online without paying, and being able to play with pictures of the cards. Much MUCH better than Apprentice, if you ask me, and definitely better than Magic Online too. Easier to use, at least.

what edition is current?

I played it in the time of mirage, ice age, and the 5th edition - 6th or7th edition

I also know that ugly portal series... after that I haven't bought much of magic...

I love my blue deck and am seeking to improve it.

Wait till I get my hands on Timetwister, Time Walk, Time Stop...

I got a TimeStop foil, it's so cool. I put it in my to-be-improved ninja/rat u/b deck. My new blue white spirit deck just won a game, so it has some promise. The latest edition I know is 9th edition, but I don't know much about editions. The latest block was the last of the Ravnica set, called Dissension.

I think the most expensive card I have is (for as far as i know) the Spirit of the Night.

I have lots of cards, and i dunno if there are any cards which are expensive nowadays.. should have a look..

Yeah, Spirit of the Night is good stuff, though sad to say many of the new cards will replace the older ones in value. The new sets have screwed us old-timers a lot.

Not really. It used to be the case. I dare say the value of cards like Spirit of the Night have fallen greatly with time, but there was a time when their values rose by age. It's only fairly recently, when they released Onslaught and beyond, that they decided to screw the old players up.

Then again, some cards are truly immortal, like Ancestral Recall... which I do NOT have... :'(

yeah! hooah! :P

Let them come with their newly made decks..

I burn them all down :P

oh, yea, i also had a blue counterdeck.. thats just funny..

However, what doesn't lose its value is the old players' skill.  ;)

Very well said! 8) I'm pretty sure I don't need to keep spending money in order to win :P

It's much like the stock exchange, where value is determined by demand and by interaction of buyers. prices will rise and fall like stock.
