ken Posted September 1, 2001 Posted September 1, 2001 The Dune 2k movies follow the David Lynch's look style and the mentats too, this is a thing what I liked a lot. In general, the Dune 2k is agreeable to my eyes and fun, indeed using the WW C&C and RA engine.
Gobalopper Posted September 1, 2001 Posted September 1, 2001 Nope Dune 2000 uses an engine created by IG. They look similar but there are also some obvious differences like when buildings blow up and the lack of any sort of .ini file structures.
ken Posted September 2, 2001 Posted September 2, 2001 Really the explosions is different than C&C and RA but the mechanic is identical, the side bar, the soldiers... My friend said when I questoned about the Dune 2000 - "Dune 2000 is like Red Alert, but in the desert" He don't consider the C&C :)
Gobalopper Posted September 3, 2001 Posted September 3, 2001 Yep it does look similar but then again every WW RTS uses the sidebar like that and the reasons everything else looks/sounds the same is Dune 2000 was a "remake" of Dune II so they kept a lot of the stuff the same unlike Emperor for example. Remember WW was still using that exact same basic infantry up until their last few games. :)
gryphon Posted October 11, 2001 Posted October 11, 2001 Dune2k didn't have the ability to build a unit from asingel factory, 2 heavy factorys still build 1 sonic. And inDune2 you could build a sonic from eatch factory you have.ie. you could build 2 sonic's at the same time, that's what I wanted in Dune2k also. And my favorite, Dune2. Ok, it's old and the grafics arn't thegrafics in Dune2k but the STRATEGY part of the game wasmuch better. And that's what it's about in a RTS.Cheers ,......
nemafakei Posted October 14, 2001 Posted October 14, 2001 I certainly agree that the multi-building was brilliant in DII. WW couldn't be bothered to change the C&C system idea to incorporate this when it made D2000. A great pity.
subarupunk Posted October 16, 2001 Posted October 16, 2001 I still play d2k more than emp or any other game for that matter. it is pretty cool.
nemafakei Posted October 20, 2001 Posted October 20, 2001 Me, I still pay DII more than D2000. It's the feel of the thing rather than the graphics and sound and all the bells and whistles.
gryphon Posted October 22, 2001 Posted October 22, 2001 When it comes to miltyplayer than I must play Dune 2k, insingel player mode Dune II is still my favorit. Ok, the effectsarn't the effect's used in Dune 2k, however the feeling youget when you're playing Dune II ........ well, Dune 2kjust doesn't give me that.Cheers. ;D
lost_child Posted December 23, 2001 Posted December 23, 2001 is there any stores around where i can still get a copy on dune2. it sounds pretty good. i did like dune 2000 alot more than emp. because the requirements r just to high but dune 2000's r like 16 meg ram 60 megs hard drive. its easy for any one to play because of these reqiurments
gryphon Posted December 23, 2001 Posted December 23, 2001 A new CD of Dune II, don't think you can find those in stores. I have an origional Dune II CD-rom but I must say a copy is easyer to get. I like to mail it to you only it's 9mb
