Leech larvae's (and more about some emperor guide)

I'm just reading trough a emperor FAQ (forgot who made it, it's first on list on this site), when i find this sentence:

"The only way to get rid of the larvae is by using an engineer to remove it."

I guess it has already been found out, but shooting a infected tank with another tank ALSO removes the larvae. well, this works for some specific tanks i've figured.

Very handy guide btw, i've found out some things i never even figured out, for example, that sard elites carry knifes; usually when i get sard elites vs infantry (rarely, i normally mix them with normal sards) i run away because the infantry kills them before the laser does any damage. also i didn't know ixian projections actually did damageĀ  :O.

The manual isn't useless, tt answers alot of questions. And it is quite useful before you begin at a new game.

However, don't try to learn tactics from the manual, for it won't do you that much good.

There are a few errors in the manual, actually. The first one is that projections cannot be seperated from a real unit by the enemy. This is false, you can see what unit is a projection, and what unit not. And they (the projections) do deal full damage (instead of none) This error is also made in a few cutscenes, where the mentats also say that projections can't be "seen" (This is likely because they first intended that way, traces of this plan can still be found in the game files)

Sardaukar Elites have knifes, and use them for infantry when they are in a specefic range. If they are standing too far away they won't use their knifes, and will use their lasguns against infantry units.

But it is a known bug that this does not always apply...

Although I prefer to use Normal Sardaukar units for infantry, which are mixed with my Elite Sardaukar.

I know the game, i was just reading everything i could get my hands on.Ā  ;D

BTW, the guide says the projections DO deal full damage, and according to what you are saying that is right. funny bug in the cutscenes btwĀ  ;D.

I didn't know sard elites had knives, i never ever noticed, this is something 100% new to me, and pretty handy to know. but alas, as you said you do, i as well usually mix them with normal sards.

Yea, I believe the manual does not say anything about if they deal full damage or not. I think I misphrased my sentence a bit. I didn't mean to say that.

Oh, and leech larves can be removed by the Atreides Repair Vehicle too (better solution for the Atreides then the Engineer)

Those are only the details of the units. No new beginnner is going to learn all those details of each unit. I said you shouldn't learn tactics out of the manual, maybe I should have added "details" as well, for clearing things up.

1. You don't need to individually name your adv carryalls. Make em all Team 1 and then move them by holding ALT and left clicking. Then select them all and press D for them to drop their units.

2. Instead of what you did you can just build drones and destroy the AI's economy...

3. I know you said it was singleplayer, and stressed this on purpose, but I still think I should point out that with this tactic in its purest form, you will get completely fucked over by a good player. ;)

Emperor has a manual ?!Ā  ???

Hehehe, I think I used mine for the fire, on a winters morning. Best use for it.

Live and learn...play online and learn.

1. yes, but thats why i said i remember which unit i give what - so i can drop mongooses in front and mino's behind.

2. i tryed doing stuff like that but it never works out for me. best so far is massing, and then i mean MASSING (40-50) sards/fremen, both normal and elite/fedaykin. and after that invading him with infiltrators. i don't get it that it won't work online, that tactic owns. units nearly can't shoot them in time and when they explode... besides, players can't be at all spots at one time, AI's can.

3. i guessed thatĀ  ;D

just go online and try the tactic and you will instantly see why it don't work.

Or try playing 1 comp on speed 8 spice bowl hard attacker 10k and see if it works then. ;)

maybe you got good firepower, but did you ever think about the time you need to get all this stuff. building a factory, a hangar, upgrading both so you can get minos and adv. carryalls, building a refinery to have money for building 6 carryalls and the minos...Ā  in the same time your opponent can build some fast moving dust scouts and lasertanks and take out your defending units (your finishedn mongooses e.g.) and destroy your refinery and factory...

exactly. he CAN, but it's an AI, he won't. it is anyway most likely the strategy won't work against a skilled player on internet.

sure?

well check out the post from alchemi2 and then look at your reply to it.

this looked like you were convinced of this tactic to work online, too.

well whatever... the thread was about leeches, wasn't it?

Sorry, my bad, i was referring to this:

Apollyon's mini patch changes 2 of the unit colors in game, lets you pan in and out farther, and gives you the option of starting with much more $ if you want. I think he may have been referring to apollyon's AI patch which makes playing against AI harder. You can download them from the dune editing link on this site. Neither patch will interfere with online play. I think pretty much all the other mods that you see on dune editing will cause problems with online play unless everyone you play has the same mod. Hope this helps you.
