Like I said. Wait until 2010 in Vancouver. Canada will own. Well, Canada pretty much owns all h2o events that involve snow, ice, water.

Hockey = best sport.

We better win the world cup. :D

So Canada isnt that great at summer games. It is only summer in Canada for a couple months a year. After that it gets cold :P

I think we can all agree thank goodness the Olympic commercials are finally going to be over soon. They were getting annoying.

It was only 20 C degrees most of the summer on the east coast. Pretty cold summer for the most part. Only had 2 weeks of around 30 degrees (86 F) temperature.

That guy must have been in a big city (lower ontairio).

Most places are only getting 20-25 C

Well 20 degrees is pretty hot for Canada :P

We go polar bear swimming January 1st every year all across Canada. At least the crazy ones not hungover.

CBC is playing the Trews - I'm not ready to go

Ya, the last couple years they have had late summers going into november and stuff. Pretty messed up I'd say. Must be having another warm one.

I remember one year there was snow on the ground on the east coast, and on the West coast they were all out on the beach.

Maybe that was for Christmas or new years. I know it was around a special date in the fall.

my remarks on the canadian summer were meant to be a joke hence the " ;) "

You havn't lived up north then. :)

(Not that I have)

But I've seen some videos of natives way up north on some Island. Man can they build big igloos.

Poor Brazilian Marathon Runner, where was the security on mopeds when he got tackled?  Watching closing ceremonies here now, and I seethed when he got bronze instead of the gold he deserved, our athlete with silver should've had the bronze.

The guy who attacked the Brazilian was the same guy who ran onto the track at Silverstone earlier this year.  He should be shot!

The closing ceremony I thought was awful.  However, if the Beijing presentation was anything to go by, in 2008, it should be amazing.  Looking forward to it.  The "stars" were miming, and miming badly.  Some just didn't care that they were miming and not even holding the mic to their mouths.

But did you know that although Britain came 10th (or joint 9th) we were actually one of the best countries there.  If you take the population and how many medals we have, we did better then we should have!

Yeah I thought the chinese girl on top of balloon was lip synching, as she was a bit late when saying stuff.

At least it wasn't a Janet Jackson half time ending. :P

THe little girl I can understand, she is an ickle girl.  But all these "stars" of Greek Music miming?  And Miming badly as well!  The muscians were miming as well!

Posted

I thought they were miming too; but then I realised that what their lips were doing corresponded exactly to the sounds, only a split second or so out of synchronisation. I think they were actually singing, but we watching it on TV got a slight gap between transmission of sound and transmission of picture.

Posted

No, they were definatly miming.  When the lassie isn't even singing and the singing keeps going, plus, the sound was far to clear for it to be live.  Its a large stadium, it would never be that crisp and clear.

Duh, everyone knows that Britannia rules the waves.

The ancient Greeks would turn in their graves, if they had any, seeing those at the Olympics.

Thinking about law forcing athletes to compete naked on ancient olympics, implemented after one woman played there, I think we can see there a typical historian misinterpretation. She could be the reason, but I'm sure purity wasn't the motive  ;D

Posted

Purity was ever the motive? The ancient Olympics was about war, fighting, pain, and homoerotic spectating. Fair play never came into it, and I expect there were severel reasons that women were banned.

Yes, the ancient Greeks are dead. So is their Olympics. Though the modern ones have their good side...
