Well as we approach the final week before the 2004 Olympics in Athens, I find my thoughts dwelling on the past thanks to all these 'terror warnings'.

Time was when all wars in the participating nations/states would be temporarily halted during the games. Perhaps something like that should be in force today.

It's 7:02 PM here right now, going to get some dinner and get ready for the show. When was the last Olympic games in Athens? 1896?

Opening ceremony was much better than those ones before, slightly fascistic, but that is typical for Olympiads, so it was good, dj Tiesto showed his best  ;D

"all that matters is the people competing giving their all"

Not just what they're giving, but what they're taking, in too many cases, I'm afraid.

Hell yeah, that's what I was going to say.

Why bother watch T&F this year? You will just watch yellow-eyed athletes winning in the end with the true honest athletes never being able to beat them.

Yes, I really enjoyed these opening ceremonies. The Greek side of my family was ecastic to see the games come home, as it were. I hope we'll see lots of great competition from the athletes -- a return to the nobler days of sport, I hope.

I read some history article that said that even in the ancient Before-Common-Era(BCE or BC) age that doping was already present but obviously due to the level of technology and society then, there was hardly any way of telling if the athlete was doped.

I liked the procession of Greek History myself. And BC is definately before Christ. I'm an athiest and even I use it like that. Changing it would be like changing the pronounciation of Uranus. Pointless.

Michael Phelps and another American took gold & silver in their swimming events, so it seems we're off to a good start as well!

Maybe date of creation, that's somewhere about 6-7 millenia BC, according to jewish, chinese, sumerian, egyptian, indian, arab and greek sources...
