Yes it is, that's why everyone is so happy and there is no poverty (because there's no money).

I can't believe how people treat "communist" as a dirty word.

If you are an American you would take it as a bad word, because when someone hears commy or communist they will think of the enemies we had to fight. And as for StarTrek being communistic, they have a fricking chain of command aboard the Enterprise! No one is equal to anyone unless they are the same rank. The captain is not equal to the engineers. Do you see the engineers going on other planets having a blast, or fighting to save themselves or the ship? No, because no one with different rank is equal. The officers get respect and better uniforms, whilst the engineers get a worse uniform and harldy no respect. Do you watch StarTrek at all Tobias?

whops, wrong part of the forum.

MoiDib, ofcourse there is a chain o' command.

But the person higher in the chain gets more

respect, but he also get the blame if something

goes wrong. Still its communistic.

I bet 2/3 of the people on this board don't even know what communism really is.

When people in my country (the US) hear the word "communist" they immediatly think of Joseph Stalin, Ho Chi Minh, or Mao Tse Tung. I got new for you: they weren't communists. Russia was never a communist state (that's an oxymoron btw).

If you see StarTrek as communistic, then do you see sailors and a captain on a boat being communistic? The captain would be the blame for whatever happens to the ship and it's crew, and gets the respect for being a captain of a boat. That would mean a good fraction of America is communistic based on your view!

I live in Romania, so I think I know more about communism than you guys. We just got rid of a "communist" regime 12 years ago.

1. Communism is a utopia and CANNOT work. It's against human nature.

2. True communism never existed, except in the imagination of Karl Marx. All the "communist" countries and regimes were just cruel dictatorships that had nothing to do with communism. For example, Ceausescu's regime in Romania was... hmmm how should I put this... hell on Earth.

3. The name "communism" has forever been stained by the likes of Stalin and Mao. True communism should be called something else. But keep in mind that it's a social system that can't work.

I disagree, communist nations wouldn't have a govt. because Karl Marx said that before true communism could be reached the government would simply "whither away" and be useless.

Like Edric said, there really is no such thing as a communist state, all the ones who claim to be have a strong govt., strong military and police force. They are brutal regimes that should be purged from the planet by the people they rule with an iron fist.

Wasn't Ceaucescu the one who imposed a tax on typewriters? I have a book on the Romanian revolution of 1989.

Exscuse me but the Federation has a council of democratically elected officials. Not every captain in starfleet is a human. If you don't believe me get the pilot of DS9 and watch the Saratoga's defense against the Borg. As for COmmunism it actually may seem like a good idea to some on the surface, yet no idea is perfect.

Much like Shaddam said Communism is just usually a government controlled by someone with abosolute power and a military to keep the civilian population in check. Even though that is not communism. It's more like a military dictatorship.

Btw...what does this have to do with Emperor?

Edric: I'm not saying communism would work. The only person sayign that is Tobias. Were jsut saying that the Star Trek federation is cummunist.

Moidib: No they didn't. Money is a foreign concept to them, as is seen in The Voyage Home where they are surprised that money is sued, and First Contact where Picard says no one is paid, they just work for the betterment of mankind.

Shaddam: Marx wrote that there would be a government, and it would be run by workers.

That's Socialism Mahdi, the stepping stone to Communism. The theory is that after people living under socialism learned (or evolved) to work together in perfect harmony there would be no need for a government to maintain order, it would be achieved by themselves.

I don't have a copy of the mainfesto on hand (read it years ago), so if anyone wants to give some quotes that would be appreciated......

Shaddam, communisim is an economic method, like capitalism, not a government method, like democracy or impealism. Thats where you are getting confused with socalism.

What I dont understand is when a Communist says they still have Cuba, I mean uhh...Yeah, you might wanna just give it all up. Cuba is deteriorating as we speak, and Fidel is withering away as we speak.

Communism can not and will not work....good example about cuba, people starving and building crumbling, cars left ont he side of the road when the break down, because you can not buy parts, having meat in your home to eat is punishable of jail, yeah thats really great. cuba should get invaded by America and made the 51st state, and we can open casinos and resorts....what does have to do with emperor??

I never said communism was a govt method, its the opposite, no government at all. It's useless.

"The theory is that after people living under socialism learned (or evolved) to work together in perfect harmony there would be no need for a government to maintain order, it would be achieved by themselves."

"The humans in Star Trek were socialists if anything, they weren't communist because there was a government (the Federation)."

"I disagree, communist nations wouldn't have a govt. because Karl Marx said that before true communism could be reached the government would simply "whither away" and be useless."

Socialism is a form of government, not Communism.
