Make sure you've ran Windows update (especially for the service packs.

Next to that, you may want to check your memory. Try booting with just one stick of ram (if you have 2 or more). If the problem remains, try swapping them around.

No, that's not the problem.

I sometimes get that screen too, and you get it while just doing normal stuff in Windows. Never in a game.

I have the latest Windows update too, and my RAM is doing fine.

I personally have no idea what the problem is.

Nope, but it doesn't matter.

My system is cool and I still get that screen sometimes...

It has nothing to do with cool or not. It has to do with the fact that one of your modules may be faulty (which may cause this message to come up)...

;) erm...yeah, good solid advice there.  ;D

Seriously though, it is worth trying the RAM first.

Does it definately sound like a hardware issue, Nyarlathotep ?

I told you, it doesn't seem to be the RAM that's.

However, it may be overclocked RAM that doesn't cope with the pressure...

My RAM was timed stupidly(RAS to CAS), and that caused my games to lock. A quick look in the bios, and it was fixed. However, this problem persisted, and it may be because I timed my RAM down from 2,5 to 2.

Anyway, it didn't happen(the blue screen) before I reinstalled Windows two months or so ago, and the memory was also fiddled with back then, so that might eliminate that cause.

So, do you use SATA disks? My problem appeared after installing one of those. I assume you run Windows XP?

Doesn't know if the error appears in earlier versions.

It may well be hardware. I've seen two solutions to this error, either it being RAM, or making sure you have all Windows updates.

Cy, I'm not running SATA drives (yet).

however it was too late and it backloaded onto my HD, thus crashing it.

I fail to understand how faulty RAM can crash your harddrive...

It's an IRQ problem, 2 programms or devices trying to access the same irq at the same time ..

Found the below somewhere else. . could be an HD. . check your device settings for errors and possible double IRQ's that can cause the problem.

1.    Installation of Roxio products (EZ-CD creator, Video Pack 5.0, etc.) Possible BIOS (aka device drivers) conflicts include: acpi.sys (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface) and ntfs.sys (NT File Structure).

2.    Setting CMOS settings incorrectly. Look for PnP OS options, and try to free up IRQ

Gryphon would these solutions be the same if your using a laptop? I have a few laptops that have displayed this error all were running Win XP. Could they be some way be realted to the Sasser worm, I mention this because one of the laptops has the virus but the virus has not been removed instead the user was using run "cmd" and "shutdown -a" to avoid the shutdown process, any suggestions or comments.

Also, visit the BIOS and check the RAM timings...

I actually found out what was causing my problems:

RAS-to-CAS latency was wrong by default.

You should check that the timings are good.

Did those laptops came with WinXP when you bought them ?

I am guess some sort of memory error .. . bad sharing or just faulty RAM.

Have you tried what Cyborg suggested ?

No, they orginally were running Win 2000 Pro upgraded them to Win XP Pro

Have you tried what Cyborg suggested?

No, but will try as soon as possible.
