I wud seriously have to disagree with that.  And anyway, even if he is the most hated person in the world, it doesnt nescerraily mean that EVERYBODY hates him.  I am sure that there are ppl who have never even heard of him.  People dont hate him as a person, they dislike the way he went to war.  THus making them "BUSH GOING TO WAR HATEREERERERERERERERES"

Rich people and powerful companies always support specifical candidates. Soros has chosen Democrats. When Clinton was in bureau, Soros was on his side, while as partner of president he was in rather honorable position. In same on which are partners of Bush now. Parties live from something, and we can't fool ourselves it is from state money.

That bothers me, though. Doesn't that mean that some people have more say than others (in a sense, a more powerful vote) than others? Doesn't that defeat the idea of democracy a little? Corporations are worse... not even a person, but an entity that gets involved in politics and drowns out the voices of others? I think that Soros, even if he's campaigning for a good cause, is doing more long-run damage than good by encouraging rich folks to throw caution to the winds and start getting people elected by sheer monetary force alone. Rather than... oh what's it called... democracy?

I think they don't play big role. You US have only two large parties, but plenty of powerful companies supporting them, so the status quo is attained. Their support is also mostly financial, so what they provide ends in propaganda and advertising. Tough now I can't say whether Americans vote for program or for media-made sympathy...

Unfortunately, companies like these actually encourage more and more people to vote, and they make every effort to make that known. And without them, campaign ads would be impossible. It also gives poorer people a chance at politics. As of now and for most of time, American politicians will be people that can afford to run. It was the same in ancient Rome. Everyone, plebeians and patricians could hold non-profit public offices, but only patricians could afford it.

How can you keep up this pace, Emprworm? And where do you get all this material? You've been back for only about three days, and I'll bet baord traffic has tripled. Damn.

This is one topic that we don't need...

In fact this is one of many topics that we don't need...

I'm spotting a common link to all of these topics...

Emprworm, stop shouting "stupid stupid stupid!" At everyone who dares to disagree with you and try to take their arguments on sensibly.

Wolfwiz: I expect he's been hoarding it ever since last time he left.

The amazing thing is that he's online more than 12 hours a day, and posting the whole time.

Emprworm, did you take a vacation from work just to post here? :)

communist lover? What say Mr. McCarthy?

Ahhh... communist.  McCarthy.  I'm just going to skip the rest of this debate (hello, inevitable flaming) in favour of one point: ignoring for a fact that what Stalin practiced was most decidedly NOT communism, but in fact plain old fascism (simply CALLING a cat a dog doesn't mean that it actually IS a dog), why do you have so much happiness in the whole fact of McCarthyism?

Look at it like this: what was happening in Stalinist Russia was almost identical to what was going on in McCarthyist USA - political extremism, clampdowns on democracy and freedoms of speech, belief and liberty (all the things America's supposed to uphold).  Yet nobody I have spoken to sees the similarity.  I think the difference between Stalin and his Russia, and McCarthy and his USA, was that McCarthy was "one of us", on "our side" whereas Stalin - doing EXACTLY the same things, politically and socially - was on "their side", and therefore bad.  So when you all go to criticise Stalin's Russia, why not look at your own not-so-distant history and see that really, America has had its share of fascist dictatorships.

Like they say, the winners really do write the history books.

Oh I do hope so, I really do.

It'll be like mayflies... Just a brief, powerful flight of glory before the inevitable and swift plunge into the water and waiting fishes...

"if things are calm in a PRP forum, then something isn't right."

You and Nav have so much in common, you know. Both proud of the quantity of your output, and the healthy response generated whenever you're around... (it wasn't meant as an insult, in case anyone complains; hardly be it for me to deride a poster when he's banned).

bush haters and al-qaida have a lot in common too.  (wasn't personal at you, in case anyone complains, just pointing out that having something in common with someone means.....what?)
