Is it me, or are Advanced Carryalls far too underrated by some?

Airlifting things in is possibly my favourite routine tactic (if, and only if there is enough money to hand), yet so few others seem to use (or mention using) it.

Can anyone tell me why other players are not as keen as I to use Adv. Carryalls?

I use them sometimes (like to carry a Devastator somewhere ;D). There is not that much opportunity to use them. When you attack an enemy, building enough Carryalls to move all your units at once is too expensive. They can be useful if you use them to drop off one of your units near an enemy Harvester. ;D

As I say, it's only good when you're rich enough. But they are much faster than most units (unless you're Ordos), and it really helps if there are certain defences you need to avoid along the way.

As was said by Sven, airlifts are too expensive. Air units have little armor and their payload is destroyed when the transport is. To be efficient the transports should be more heavily armored. It would also be nice if the payload parachuted down when the transport is gunned down. Air weapons in Emperor are weak. Emperor should be more like RA2. You should be able to get troops dropped onto the landscape like in RA2. There should also be an airborne troop carrier.

I have used airlifts the way Sven and some of the others have suggested to move maybe a few units in key positions at a time. Low armor is as Klob (welcome back Klob) said is needed for these units to more efficient but still useful if you have a good strategy working for you.

Quite frankly. I dont really care about air units. My entire strategy is based on defending my base until i have emassed a large force of sarduakar (50 - 100+). I only use vehicles for base defense so i really dont care. I love sarduakar in a non-gay way.

Er... If you don't care about air units, why bother to post here, then?

Besides, use an APC with your Adv. Carryall, and you've got an expensive troop drop. But it's brilliant where moneys no object.

has anybody here just tried to teleport niabs? i like to teleport them and then airdrop one or two other guild niabsto take care of vehicles while the other 15 are sitting there getting there energy back and then when all 17 or 20 of the niabs are filled with energy boom there goes there goes the enemy base . its fun to do but can use up a lot of money. i always

have 4 to 5 refinerys to do this. i guard the spice field(s) with a maker a mino and two mongeese

Try picking up Guild Makers, just as they are firing, with Advanced Carryalls. If you do it right they will keep firing. :)

Not sure if this still works, it did in earlier versions. Same might go for NIAB's but I never tested them...

whos are your favorite subhouses ? i would have to say guild and ix and if im on dune maps then its of course fremen and guild. and nema i tried to make a little sense in my message today ok. "for nema" i think that you should read my reply in emperor dead?.

I have replied; and yes, the message is easier to understand.

There are already about 5 threads on subhouses; could you post your preferences there - it's just that otherwise, we'll go off at a tangent quite a bit...

It depends entirely on the map... For instance Hall of Pillars has elevated areas en-route to enemy bases, and I've found airlifting units to them gives you a massive advantage. Its mostly about effort rather than price.

Cavedog... Total Annihilation... Man that game kicked ass.

I heard that the company that bought Cavedog (after it went bust) is planning on making Total Annihilation 2. This is old information so I could be wrong.

OOPS! So sorry! I'm supposed to be talking about Emperor. Well...um...yes, well...um...as I said - try dropping off some Devastators in the enemy's spice field (I'm trying desperately to get back to the subject of Emperor here).

They could cause devastation to the enemy's economy! (It's another thread, no-one will notice the repetition...)

That is one decent Devastator tactic. Try also nuking spice fields; the radiation kills harvesters - and carryalls!

Would be any good if a mod came out concentrating on advanced carryalls and improved their strength, self healing, speed whatever just tell me I'll choose the best ideas and make a mod and give you the site when I'm finished.

Sven: Not if they're in the process of being picked up, or using the rockets for attacking your ground units

aB: You want a good, all-round mod, not just focused on one unit.

Edric: Yes. MCVs are even better - Tech trees galore!

Look, if you want to make a decent mod, do it, send it to Riper, maybe ask him for advice on its weaknesses etc, and post anything about it in the Dune Editing section. And again, make it a decent, sensible mod that is not just biased towards one unit, house or strategy.
