Titled "Serenity", it will be filmed during hiatus this spring/summer and released next year.  It has a budget in the mid 8 figure range.

I already know which big space epic I'll be spending my money on next year, and here's a hint:  The directors name does not have a "Luc" or "us" in it.

All the cast but Alan Tudk and Ron Glass have signed.  Tudyk wants to but can't because he is already contractually obligated to do something else, that he is trying to get out of.  No word on Glass.

It will be taking place 6 months after the series  ended, and will be about "two passengers" (River and Simon?) getting the crew into trouble with the alliance.

The original script, which was an epilogue of sorts to the series, was thrown out by Universal because they want a franchise, not a one shot flick.  Whedon then wrote the script that will be used, which is more independant from the series, and opens things up for future films/tv series'.

Rumour is Mal will be more like he was originally conceived (fairly dark) than the lighter charcter Fox wanted.

Whedon will also be directing, which, to be honest, not an idea I'm particualrly fond of.  Since his company is producing the film, he doesn't ahve to worry about anyone distorting his vision, liek with the original Buffy movie, and he is not the greatest director around.  Good, yes, but a much better writer.

Wow thats awsome! I really thought when I watched the first few episodes that it would make a great movie. I will look forward to this very much.
