Addendum: Avant Browser

An adaptation of the IE browser, with more options and tabbed browsing.

Pros:

-Completely free!

-Tabbed Browsing

-Fairly fast

-Full Active-X

-Compatable with most sites, including Windows Update

-Highly Customizable

-Pop-Up and Ad blockers

-Nifty little "Containing Site" feature

-Imports seamlessly and automatically from IE

Cons:

-No IRC Client

-No built-in Mail CLient (Unless you have Outlook Express!)

-Lots and lots of buttons; could be daunting to some

-All the menus can slutter up the screen

I am using Avant for a while now .. I use Outlook for my email . .and as there is no other real exchange email client the lack of it in Avant doesn't really bother me. The buttons and menu's can be customised to. .. my current layout is something like the attached screenshot.

Gryphon this is not normal is ti how do I remove this from my scree? I hope this is not one of those programs where you HAVE to donate before the program behaves correctly. Any suggestions? [attachment archived by Gobalopper]

Huh, works fine for me, and I never had to donate to anything.  Did you try cliking inside that box?  If that doesn't work, try reinstalling Avant.

I use Mozilla sometimes and IE6 most of the time.  THough I detest IE, the other memebers of my family swear by it!

you can customise Avant with the tools then Avant browser options option.

Try to disable the splash startup screenwith the misc options settings. . . :)

DukeLeto all was saying was that sometimes "freeware" will indeed work but you may have a small ad screen present that always asks for a donation and is always on the screen, this is not the case with the Advant browser.

Seems Opera has gone completely free with no ads.

This is a good thing, even though I don't use it. More competition = better for consumers and more innovation. And M$ loses market share. ;) Cause M$ hasn't changed IE really since version 5 was released. That was back in 98?

Seems the browser wars will heat up as soon as IE7 is released, although that isn't until Vista is released right? Q4 2006? That gives Mozilla and Opera lots of time to prepare. Especially since they are already better than IE.

Vista's current release is indead in about a year. Although IE7 might not be the next best things for MS. And keep in mind that although the IE interface hasn't changed. the code has been.

I have been using Opera for. . euh. .think about 2 years, from release 5. The last year it has been my main browser.
