As I said, buying awards isn't anything new. And the world can hardly be overrun by the kind of people who already make up the vast majority of the population.

He's got an award for giving billions to charity. Some may see it as humanitarian, others as simply buying the award. Either way, it's a legitimate method of going about getting one so what's the fuss about?

I was going to say the same thing. It wasn't Bill Gates that sued the teenager, it was the Corporation. It wasn't Bill Gates that gave thousands of jobs to people, it was the Corporation. Yes he had a good deal of involvement, but it was a team effort, not an individual one.

i think morduss is trying to say that he feels that Bill Gates is not worthy of his fame or fortune due to him not being the actual creator of any of his products ...but rather the business man who bought up all the other people's ideas .. compiled them... and made them his own and became rich... also i think morduss is trying to say that because these technologies were already created and he bought them up... that they would have been released somehow anyways under a different tycoon and therefore we would not be 20 years behind.

Agreeing with EWS here, to an extent.  Bill Gates is a great person, whatever way you look at it.  He gave birth to the concepts that created what we know as Windows (although pinching some stuff from Apple did help :P).  He is, however, also a git.  Now, this is because I personally hate him - I remember watching a program about a year ago that said that he didn't even have a computer.  Also, he is ugly.

All in all, he has a great mind, but like most great minds, is an asshole.  This is not to say that all assholes have great minds... hint hint Mordus, quit with the flaming.

Personally I agree with you in one respect.  No, he doesn't deserve an award just for being a good businessman.  Obviously being a good businessman has it's own rewards.  But when he turns around and does exactly what 99% of other good businessmen would never do and give absolute scads of his wealth away to multitudes of organizations that need it, doesn't *THAT* warrant it?
