I don't know how the laws are in your country, but in the Netherlands it isĀ  forbidden for an ISP to search for what their users are viewing and downloading on the internet. There are some strict privacy laws for that. And I'm not suprised if Great BritainĀ  has the same views on that topic.

not entirely correct Timenn. In The Netherlands ISP are also obligated by law to save all users connection info for a few hours incase a court order would demand the release of those data.

Though the provides Planet even had a cach of a few terrabyte of KaZaA files [ on Dutch Planet servers alone ] so there users could download it faster and they would save on bandwidth.

About data being tracked back to a uesr. That is always possible. It's unlinkely or hard in some cases. The only exeption is when you use servers that don't maintain logfiles.
