. . . when you're told franch has been our ally for over 200 years and the Iraq war is the first tiome they haven't supported us, but later find out the US disbanded the treaty less than 20 years after it was made and hasn't made any alliances until 1941 with great britian, until then we just fought with others . . .

Why would Du Galle be anti-American and especially anti-British? Did not the British give him a place to stay when he would have been executed by Nazis? Did not American, Canadian, British, and Russian effort win him back his homeland?

Okay, I do not care what you say. Du Galle is ungrateful if he truly had anti-Americanism and anti-British views.

I'm not sure, but I always saw Du Galle as a Patriot.  He loved his nation and it had just come through the second world war with a great deal of damage.

Maybe he just wanted to keep France out of the Cold War as best as possible, so that it may never suffer as a battleground again?

That makes sense, Ordos. I think it is also highly possible that people may... hype up the "anti-Americanism and anti-British sentiment" of Du Galle to get their own point across. I really do not know enough about the subject to judge him, and since I was never previously aware of such... sentiment on the part of Du Galle, it is possible that some people are presenting a hyped-up truth that is blown way out of proportion. That is, unless, they back it up.

You say it Caid.

At the end of the second world war and at the beginning of the cold one, De Gaulle noticed it: France was not the great power it was in the past and they were 2 powers you had not to upset. so his view was that france became a "middle power" and it had to follow this way: become the leader of all the "middle powers" around the world. In order to aim this target, De Gaulle upset the US but also the Russians in order to say t the new powers: "US and USSR are 2 big powers but if we have acommon position we can they what we want to say".

So, it is the only the view of a french guy...

The what Dunenewt calls "anti British" stance of De Gaulle was because Brittain was (and is) closer to the US, especially back then, and he was (correctly) affraid that they would hinder the development of the European Community.

Also don't forget that De Gaulle wasn't recognised as the legal leader of France by America before they got involved in the war, whereas they were quick to recognise the collaborating Vichy regime. Also Roosevelt didn't like the idea of De Gaulle leading a post war French government.
