Basic things for newbies.

I want to make a guide for newbies with some basic things so that they can get started good.

Not to do:

-do not make walls

-do not make turets unless u are under attack, making turets takes time and since everybody rushes u dont have much time.

-do not make more then 1 wind trap after deploying ur mcv,  make the second wind trap after ur energie level has gone down.

-dont make snipers, they cost to much and they cant kill tanks, its better to make regular infantry cuz they cost less then a sniper, but they can kill both infantry and small tanks.

-dont make only troopers, mix them with some normal infantry, they might be strong but if u make only troopers they will easily get killed by other infantry and it takes 1 shot from a bike/dust/saw to kill 1 trooper so the units of the enemy will get chevrons becuz of ur troopers which will make it even more difficult to kill them.

Building Order:

This is a basic building order and most ppl use this one, learn it and after u are good with this building order make ur own building order.

Baracks

Refinary

Factory

Refinary

(here u can build what ever u want, u could make sards or another refinary if u want to have more money, u could make a hangar and make drones, it all depends on the situation)

Make lots of normal infantry(gas if u are ordos) and make some bikes/dust/saws, with this army u should be able of stopping a rush or rushing urself.

Tips:

-First u need to know what every unit is capable of, u need to know how to counter units, most of that u can learn by reading this:

http://www.dune2k.com/forum/index.php?topic=8528.0

-Try to be agressive, try not to be pushed in a position were u have to defend, u can do this by attacking urself.

-If u play against an Atreides u need to put some anti-air near ur money or u will get droned, if u are Atreides make drones against drones.

-If u play against hark/ordos making sardukars is very important,  they are very strong against bikes.dust/saws.

-Always try to put ur infantry on a infantry rock, this can be very important if u play against hark.

-Before u start the game u need to know what to build, cuz i c lots of new ppl who make 1 baracks while i have a barack, refinary and factory, they ussually dont know what to build, i am not saying u should stick with one way to build stuff cuz it all depends on the situation, but u should have an idea what ur gonna build.

This is it for now, if u have some good tips 2 feel free to post them.

To add: If new players are going to play online, then the game speed needs to be on 8 and all graphics should be on low, shadows off.Otherwise in a 4 player game it will lag alot.

This you do by using the Options tab, in the very first window of Emperor, the one where you choose single or Multiplayer game.

It does not matter how fast your comp or connection is, it will lag.

Get used to playing with 10K of money, because that is the most used amount, the most popular map is Fishers Plain too.

Nobody plays with Living world or fog of war on, so switch them off if your hosting a game.

To Ally in a game press the Tab button, and click on the box to the right of your intended Ally's name. This will turn white if you have done it properly, and a message will appear .....has allied with .....etc.

At the start do not forget to scout well ! if you can't see what others are doing you will be slaughtered.

10k may be the most "common "setts but it's not really gonna develop you into an elite player.  only way to be developed into an elite player is to play on QM settings. end of story.

as for Fog of War - all elite players play with it on.  granted, there are very few elite players left on WOL so FOW is off most of the time.  but without Fog on, Emp is far less strategic because people with no talent whatsoever can just stare at the enemy base that they are able to see for 100% of the time and Air Drop things that they should NOT (from a strategic gameplay perspective) be able to Air Drop so shamefully easily.

to summarize:  if you wanna become a truly great Emperor player - you must play with Fog on and with QM settings.

the ONLY thing 10k teaches you is how to mass tier 1 units and click them to the enemy base, then "pat yourself on the back" when you "win" because your mass of tier 1 units HAPPEN to have more hitpoints & do more damage than your enemy's mass of tier 1 units.
