I do not, But I live about 30 meters from a Taekwando Academy (just the name of business, doubt it's a "real" academy)

About 2 or 3 times a week, people(mostly kids I notice) go there.

I practice Tae Kwon Do. Ive been in it about 10 years, and have acheaved the rank of 3rd Degree Black belt (3rd dan). I really love martial arts, it helps free the mind and soul and really gets you fit.

Europe has created many interesting sword-based martial arts. I would stay with these.

I prefer my cuirasser straight sabre (rapier or how you call it) when I learn some war style. It is a perfect middle way between point attack fleuret and a true sabre. I have also some smaller scimitar, but as I don't have a horse I can't learn its technics yet ;D And then I have a two-handed one, replica of Narsil, which is also good for beginners. I must try sometimes japanese ones, but they aren't cheap and no one makes lighter replicas.

im taking shoshin ryu jujitsu....... just started couple months ago...

what kind of jujitsu are u taking Earthnuker?

Good question...I know there are many different styles of ju jitsu (ryu) but I'm not even sure if my teacher specialises in one of them.

I'm only following a series of trial courses but I think that after I finish this trial period I'll join permanently.

They're also teaching Goju-Ryu karate wich I think I might start doing too.

I've read quit a bit about the history of both arts and how they evolved. Karate was derived from Kung Fu in China in an environment when you delt with mostly civilians, while the Bushi in Japan fought in armour so Karate is more about kicking and punching while this would be little good against armoured men so Ju Jitsu has very different techniques.

shoshin ryu mainly involves body mechanics and physics... there are many things you can specialize in shoshin ryu... such as my senseii specializes in presure points (some of them hurt like a ...!!) and i've met someone who specializes in throws.... others specialize in weapons... there are many things. we also do catas (im' not sure if that's sp right) which were developed by farmers to learn moves by practicing on basically pretend people, because i guess it was illegal to practice with real people.

I spent about 10 years in Tai Chi, which was great. I have taken a break from it and am in Tae Kwon Do for about a year because my sons started it. Martial arts are, as Sardaukar Elite said, a great way to get fit and clear up stress.

As a side note, when I started Tai Chi, my skiing improved greatly from the increase in balance and strength.
