Earth 2075: The New Cold War

The British revolt in Wembley was the last straw. The popularity of the European Leninist Party soared to unheard-of levels, and people took to the streets in such numbers that the government feared an all-out revolution would occur unless they took action against capitalist/imperialist aggression abroad.

The government authorized a militia of 100 thousand volunteers (mostly young workers, eager to prove themselves and fight for socialism) to cross the Channel and come to the aid of the British government. Similar militias were being formed by workers all over Britain. The people would not allow their rights and their freedom to be trampled by a band of snobbish nostalgics who dreamed of the good old days when they were in power and could live in luxury off the backs of the working class.

As the connections between the British terrorists and the Russian government were discovered, the European Parliament gave the order for the invasion of Eastern Europe. And at the same time, it issued a call to arms to the poor and the oppressed of Eastern Europe:

Comrades! The hour of liberation is at hand. For so many years, you have been alone, struggling against impossible odds. For so msny years, you have witnessed first-hand the terrble injustice of capitalist tyranny. For so many years, you have been denied what is rightfully yours. You have been kept poor or on the edge of poverty while others got rich from your work. But no more! Recent events have allowed us to come to your aid, and our armed forces - composed of people just like you - are now fighting with the defenders of capitalist tyranny in your countries. With your help, we can defeat them. With your help, we can bring to your countries the same freedom and prosperity that we have in Western Europe. To arms, comrades! This is the day of revolution!

Mass uprisings have flared up in Warsaw, Prague, Bratislava and Budapest, as well as other major cities across the region. The governments of Eastern Europe have to fight against foreign invasion forces and their own people at the same time.

The British government, having originally planned more peaceful methods to return the country to a stable, "upbeat" state, was shocked by these new uprising. Underground propaganda, for instance claiming that patriotism was "illegal" (despite the non-existence of any such laws; people are free to be as patriotic as they like, as long as they aren't forcing it on others or being "overly disruptive"), that living conditions were poor (despite per-capita SOL being double that of most FTO nations and unemployment below 2 percent), etc., seemed to be more effective than originally thought. And these rebels were getting money and equipment from somewhere.

Desperate times call for desperate measures, and the times were cetainly desperate. The British armed forces, now supported by the troops of the FSRE, struck back against the uprsings. Simultaineuosly, the British government pssed laws to further increase government funding for eductaion, public healty, and welfare, one and for allestablishing Britain as having the highest SOL in the Western world. And government broadcasts and publications stressed that the citizens are free to be as patriotic as they want.

The Underground had awoken the sleeping giant, and they were going to pay for it. The People's Republic of Great Britian and Northern Ireland would be whole agin. And the people could not have been happier.

A special elite group of freedom fighters had taken large chunks of land in the midlands, this group was made up of ex-special forces like the SAS and the Paras who had formerly fought for King Charles who is now in exile in Gibralter which remains free of the Socialists after its declaration of independance to escape it.

The British Armed Forces continued to gain ground on the foolish rebels. However, increasingly militant actions from the Russian Federation were beginning to frighten teh British government. In order to establish a buffer zone between Russian and the Socilist states of Western Europe, 20 thousand British troops were dispatched to assist Marxist revolutions in Poland, the Czek Republic, and Slovakia, among others.

OOC: Gibraltar?? How can that possibly be a royalist stronghold, when it's a tiny piece of land right next to Socialist Britain's greatest ally? You should play as Canada, Dunenewt. That's a former British colony able to stand up on its own in a war, and it's a FTO member too.

IC: The British royalist government of Gibraltar had never drawn the attention of the Europeans before. Gibraltar had no army to speak of, and they controlled such a small territory that they could be simply ignored. Most of Gibraltar's original population had fled across the border to Spain in order to seek a better life, and only royalist supporters remained there today. But now, with the royalist uprising in Britain, capturing the exiled King Charles suddenly became a top priority. A few thousand Spanish troops quickly dispatched the meager royalist resistance and took over Gibraltar. But they did not find what they were looking for. The King and his inner circle had already left the country. There was no way of knowing where they had gone to, although Canada was the most likely destination.

In the mean time, in Eastern Europe, the bitter fighting continued. Czech revolutionaries fought with government troops in the streets of Prague for 48 hours. But in the end, the red flag was flying proud above the Parliament building. The Czech President and most of the government ministers had been taken into custody by the communist millitia. Although there was still some sporadic shooting in some neigborhoods, most of Prague was firmly in revolutionary hands. The rest of the Czech Republic had been liberated in part by the European army and in part by various Czech revolutionary forces. Just 3 days after the start of the revolution, the communists had crushed the forces of capitalism and were now in the process of finishing off the last stragglers. Negotiations began for the forming of a new Czech government.

In Poland, the European army played a larger role. Although the Poles liberated Warsaw and Cracow mostly by themselves, the government had well-paid and well-trained mercenaries that spread panic and killed people indiscriminately in an attempt to drown the revolution in blood. Initially, the mercenaries succeeded in defeating revolutionary millitias. But when the high-tech, disciplined and organized European army arrived, the mercenaries were quickly eliminated. Poland became the second Eastern European country which successfully overthrew capitalist tyranny.

But the war was far from over. Although 2 objectives had been met, another 3 still remained: Slovakia, Hungary and Romania.

However, despite these victories, the war in Slovakia was going poorly. What remained of the government army, along with Russsian troops already stationed in the country and legions of mercenaries, had inflicted greivous casualties on the communist rebels. And the arrival of the British army didn't help as much as hoped. Almsot 2 thousand British soldiers died or were badly wounded in the first week of fighting. However, with Western Europe's assitance in the capture of Gibralter, Britian dispatched 10 thousand more soldiers to the war-torn nation.

Within 2 weeks of their arrival, Slovakia finally fell to the communists, although the nation's former leaders fled into Romania, pleading for Russian assistance.

The propaganda went well. The Nigerian people started major protests in cities, calling for action against the FTO. The government couldn't deny them this, so about a week after the bombings, the nation of Niger declared war on America and the FTO...

-----------------------------------------------

Back at Cairo, the Presidents of Morocco,Algeria, and Libya were called to a meeting. They were told of what the plan was. They discussed...and discussed...and discussed, until Marantel Habjerra, the Libyan Minister of Defence and Propaganda, came up with an idea...

***Message to President of Niger***

'We know of your hate towards the water-fat( ;))capitalist FTO.We hate them also. But, we cannot declare full war on them, as that would bring the entire FTO crashing down on ALL of us,but we have a different plan....

***********************************

Several days later, an unusually large number of Nigerian troops boarded a large number of ships, and sailed towards South Africa...

In the premiers office a trio of officials gathered to discuss the latest events and how to respond- premier Chukov and his most trusted officials, Beria and Zakarov. The otherwise all knowing Beria was utterly surprised by the recent communist invasions.

"I wouldn't have expected the British royalists to let hear of them so loud. They provided the perfect excuse for the commies to invade. And look what it has cost us. Our chief objective, Poland, is lost forever. We must act quickly and take what's left."

Zakarov, the military mastermind, used a pen to draw a few lines across a map laid out across the table. The hand drawn lines were perfectly straight as if drawn by a machine.

"If you give the order premier, I'll have ground devisions roll into the Baltic states in two hours. Estonia, Latvia and Lithuniana couldn't stand up for 7 hours to a coordinated attack."

Chukov nodded.

"What about our plans for Bulgaria? If we don't take it now the Europeans will."

"A full scale amphibian invasion has been prepared for and we can deploy ground forces there in less then 4 hours. Combined with a series of airstrikes I believe we can reach Sofia in 6 hours."

"Very well. After that the gates will be open to former Yugoslavia. As long as we act quickly, right?"

Zakarov nodded in agreement, confident in his own abilities.

Beria leafed through some sheets on the table.

"I will continue to support anti communist elements in the rest of eastern Europe...what to do about the British royalists?"

"See if you can contact them, tell them we can arrange sanctuary in FTO territory. We can provide them with additional training and equipment to prepare for a coup d'etat in the future."

Another man entered the room and looked at Beria, then handed a sheet of paper to him. Chukov didn't like that this man thought he could enter a top secret meeting just like that, or that he looked at Beria for permission instead of him. He hoped he wouldn't need to get rid of Beria in the near future.

"Puzzling news sir" Beria said. "Our contacts in Niger inform us a large group of Nigerian ships are heading south"

"Troup carriers?"

"Unknown...but I very much doubt they would attack an FTO nation. They know what they're dealing with."

"Zakarov, I want you to divert any spy satelites we have in the region and monitor these ships. Find out what you can and report to me."

"I assume I am also ordered to commence the invasion of the Baltic states and Bulgaria?"

"Yes, you are. Dismissed."

A mere 2 hours later the world learned that Russian forces had entered the Baltic states and commenced air strikes on military targets. Clearly the defenders would not last long. Before the IASR had time to condemn the invasion amphibian transports unloaded Russian troops on the coast of Bulgaria and began moving towards the capital Sophia. The Bulgarian resistance would not last long either.

The rebels rallied and fought their way through to the port of Plymouth where they were met by a group of the British Armed forces who had agreed to help them. From there they took control of the HMS Ark Royal , the Royal Navy's flagship and escaped Socialist waters and made their way to USA with a large fleet of of smaller Gunboats and Submarines. 100,000 people escaped all together. The massacre of innocent civilians at Gibraltar wouldn't be forgotten by the British public and an uprising would become imminent

OOC:DukeLeto, no-one would complain if you changed you country now.

OK then, back to business...

The British government, along with member states of the IASR, had driven the Underground to small strongholds on Gibralter. The United States and Canada had been forced to cover a retreat of as many Underground supporters as possible from mainland Britian. They used hijacked civillian transports for some of the evacuations. Their survival was dependant on the British Army's reluctance to kill innocent civiallians (despite the Underground playing them up as ruthless murderers.) And sure, enough, the soldiers wouldn't sink the civilian ships (and the government sure as Hell wasn't going to order them to).

However, the IASR was soon rocked by the Russin invasion of the Baltic states. While the reeling IASR parliment debated the issue of attacking, the Brits knew what to do. They immediately condemmed the invasion as an attack on British allies and sent over 2 million British troops to Eastern Europe. Combined with local forces and already-present British/IASR forces, they fought valiantly to drive back the Russians.

What everyone had feared had come to pass; the world's superpowers were on the verge of all-out war.

After a few days of sailing, the ships reached Comoro Isl, which they would use as a base for staging assaults on South Africa + its puppets. Their first trget was Swaziland...

1 Day later they had control of Comoro Isl.3 days later troop carriers were sailing towards Swaziland...

Meanwhile, spies were being inserted into FTO countries. Particularly America...

Seeing that the FTO is occupied with the conflict in Europe, N.Korea took the chance to proceed with it's plan. To unify the Korean Peninsula.

The two companies that is funded and ran by the N.Korea government suddenly gone bankrupt, making 1/5 of S.Korea's working population to gone unemployed over a night. First regional demonstrations happened...then they turn into country-wide riots.

N.Korea proposes sending military aid to help stopping the riots...

Newt: When you invade a non-aligned country, you get to decide what its population thinks. If you're playing as a ruthless invader, you can have its population hate you so you can brutally repress them. But since both me and Duke are playing as true communists/socialists fighting for liberty and justice, our countries have prosperous socialist economies, a well-established democracy, high degrees of personal freedom, and very happy people. Consequently, the long-suffering people of Eastern Europe have welcomed us as liberators.

Duke: The rules say you CANNOT go to war directly against FTO (Russian) forces. The most you can do is invade the Baltic States and compete with the Russians on who can conquer the most land. But don't expect any help from me - my forces are already tied up in the Balkans, and it would be god-modding on my part to assume I can mount a campaign in the Baltic States at the same time.

Oh, and there is no IASR Parliament. There is a European Parliament, but the IASR is an international military alliance. It has a General Assembly and a Security Council.

The news of the Russian attack on the Baltic States had the effect of greatly lowering European spirits (which were sky high after their string of victories), but it did not come as a surprise. The European commanders were expecting a Russian invasion there, and they knew that there was nothing they could do about it. But what did come as a surprise was the amphibious assault on Bulgaria. Top military strategists began debating on the best course of action, while the European armies moved south from Slovakia into the vast plains of Hungary.

Due to the fact that Hungary is mostly made up of endless flat plains, there was nothing to slow down the European advance. Helped by Hungarian partisan forces, the 4 European armies reached Budapest in a matter of days, and then the southern borders of Hungary just two more days after that. While they were mopping up the last mercenaries fighting for the old capitalist regime, they got the news of the Russian invasion of Bulgaria, and also of an immense revolution firing up in Romania. In the first half of the 21st century, the Romanian Communist Party had grown more than any other CP in Eastern Europe, and had also become the most modern CP in the region, on an equal footing with their western comrades. The people of Romania had suffered long and hard under one corrupt government after another, but now they sensed that their time had come. Red flags were already flying high and proud in all major Romanian cities. President Velcea was nowhere to be found. It looked as if the Romanian Revolution could triumph without any outside help. Then again, there was no way to be sure of that.

Under these circumstances, the four European armies in Hungary received the following orders:

The 2nd army was to move eastward into Romania and ensure the victory of the revolutionaries.

The 1st, 3rd and 4th armies were to move southward into Serbia in order to cut off the Russian advance. The invasion of Serbia was not part of the original plans for this campaign and Serbia had no communist movement to speak of. In fact, it had no opposition movement to speak of, since its ruthless nationalist dictator (President Dragovic) had outlawed all other political parties a long time ago. His own party, the Serbian National Front, was well-entrenched and would prove to be a tough nut to crack.

Err, yeah, perhaps there was some poor wording in my post. I'm just beatin the crap out of fighting the Russians in the the Baltic states, not directly attacking them.
