There has been discrimination of females over the past thousand years in the asian, african and also the western countries, generally, all the countries.

In the more primitive Asian society of then and now, women are/were not allowed to work and had to be homemakers instead and for the muslims,a man could take 4 wives and a woman couldn't take 4 husbands and if she committed crimes, she would be punished heavily, and while if a muslim man had done the same,he would be either be given a lighter sentence[if the penalty-giver is a devout muslim(man)]or be let off, under the ruling that the woman was at the wrong, even if she did not have a part to play at all in the crime.[There are a lot of other stuff too in Indian,Chinese, etc. societies]

In the western countries, women couldn't vote while men could and it was only allowed later.

And one thing that I just thought of is...why do religious teachers[pastors, etc.] in a worshipping ground[church, mosque, synagogue] have to be male? Why can't females perform the duty?

So let's kick-start the discussion of "Female Discrimination"

I know of a female umm pastor/preist/reverend. (don't know what you exactly call her).

It probably started when man began to hunt animals and bring food back to their homes to their family. This made them the breadwinners and thus control over the population. ;) (not entirely true)

Discrimination against Women began in Anicent Greece and Egypt.

Women are/and still are to an extent regarded as the weaker sex and needing protecting.

For instance the only way Cleopatara VII could rule Egypt was by marrying her 4 year-old brother. Kinda of hipocritical if you ask me...

Also women were the first doctors, pharamists and priestess if you believe in the anicent rituals of Greece, Rome and Egypt.

These duties the spearding and pratice of religion, the administration of medience and making home remedies were considered to be women's work.

Not until the the speard of Chrisitanity did we start to see men in these roles. For the images painted at this time all reflected men floating off the ground with halo enclousres over thier heads with the exception of the Virgin Mary there were no female role models during this development.

The eariler female Goddess were forgotten put in a corner.

Also the Dracoian Laws were still in effect saying that a woman was the property of the her nearst male relative, she could not own property out right or vote.

As people started to become book-educated Women for the most part were not as their role in life was fixed upon being a homemaker, mother and wife. So it was the logical funciton at the time that it would be a waste of money for schooling for them.

These ideals continued throughout the centuries. Until the late 1880's in the United States. Women's Property Still became her husband's property when she married, a man could still hit his wife, they could not vote, etc..

Even after this was changed the mind set of people did not up to and during the 1950's women did not hold any sort of superivisitory position or was an executive if they were it was a rarity. Women were still looked upon as empty-headed females the man had to take care and were not give important positions because: she'll get married, have an affair with the boss or get pregnant.

It wasn't until the 1970's that women really started to fight for equal rights and we still are not there in that respect women still make on 85% on the dollar of what thier male conterparts make.

I am not saying it has not gotten better in the workforce but it does have a very long way to go.. A woman should be able to be a woman and not have to look like a man and dress like one to be taken seriously. I nausates my that my company in a way is like that...

But as far as the Religion Issue goes well lets just say that only in the 10 somewhat years have they allowed the catholic church to have "Altar Girls" instead of only "Altar Boys"

I think that we will see preists being allowed to marry before we see female preists in the Catholic Church..

Altar girls (if you mean those priest aides during the mass) are traditional in many slovak villages, especially on west. Maybe it is just a czech husitic influence, but in fact girls were there even in communist times. There are no restrictions, boys just do it more often. Also in most small christian societies it is usually a girl who acts like some form of spiritual leader - alongside with the priest, of course, if he's there.

What can you expect the people that run our country are uptight minded individuals.

They don't want to teach sex ed or discuss birth control in school instead they want to teach us absanance.

Yea Right that is really working now...

Some of the hyprocacy is so amusing ...

*Hops back on topic*

In India, brides have to pay dowry to the grooms, even till today, but why?Aren't they bullied enough? >:(

And in most asian countries, women are often confined to taking care of children and being a homemaker, all because the men think they are more superior, someone said this earlier in this thread, forgot the name, :P.

And now the new topic we will focus on-Boys being preferred over girls in births...

Boys can do further education while girls can only do a basic education, just because they think the girls will only become homemakers,so they dun need much education.
