First of all, scientists are still not sure that that is water, and second - that doesn't seem to be enough water to cover the entire planet and cause that massive erosion. Third, where does Mars fit in with the bible?

Posted

The bible has all the answers, doesn't it? What happened on Mars in 5,000 years seems pretty huge to leave out of the story of God's creating.

Also seeing as the bible makes out the human race to be the god's greatest prize, and possession, which is why people once thought the earth was the center, does it make sense to have a flood on another planet? Even so, those waters would have to be going extremely fast to cause that erosion.

Mars seems like a plothole to me.

God, Man, and ET: The Question of Other Worlds in Science, Theology, and Mythology

For centuries scholars, theologians, and scientists have wondered if other worlds like ours exist within and beyond our solar system. Is the question answerable? Is there any evidence for an intelligent extraterrestrial presence - either now or in the distant past? If there was, could the traditional Judeo-Christian faith, so foundational to western civilization, survive such a revelation?

The bible has the answers which are important to the human race. Mars isnt the most important thing to the human race. Care to actually make a post that doesnt have to do with origins/christianity/religion? ::)

I am beginning to think you are obsessed, it is all you think about! lol

If you actually took the time to see things from a good and bad perspective, then you might learn something. You give off a pretty harsh aura though, might want to cool it down a bit, just a suggestion.

It is weird that you pointed out mars as a pothole, while the bible hasent explained almost anything that you so desire. You dont desire it though, you desire other people to see through your own eyes.

There are 4 words in hebrew for creation. The first verse of the bible uses the word that means creating out of nothing, the other verses use either creating out of preexisting materials, sculpting something. Those are the ones that are used in the first two chapters.

The first verse has a completely different creation word than the others, and there is a clause in verse 2, it says "and the earth BECAME formless and void."

In Isaiah he says that "God did not create the earth formless and void."

It also mentions the angelic conflict and the destruction of the surface of the earth.

From all of this and some other info, it seems to indicate that the 6 days werent of creation, but restoring the earth. The stars werent created, but if you read carefully in the source text, it says that they came into existance, or came into view. The earht was covered with darkness, and when clensed during the division of waters from waters, the stars, moon sun and other objects came into view. The bible mentions the reflecting bodies and the radiating bodies. that happend on the fourth day.

So you see I interprit the bible like this, and there are other famous theologens that agree, like Ryrie and others.

God created the universe.

Satan eventually fell, destroyed the surface of the earth out of spite.

God restored the earth in 6 days and placed man there as the test.

The angelic ages could have taken up an enormous amount of time. They actualyl could have been cultured, advanced peoples. Not like the typical view we see of angels. They are a bunch of different races, who are "a little better than humans". That is my idea.

Acriku, the whole point of arguing is to either learn something from other people, or trying to show other people your point.

Trying to show others your point, and trying to change them in the process is something called Converting.

You are a very religious boy, I suggest though to approch things differently. When trying to preach to somebody, dont treat those people as inferiors as you do, but be compassionate. instead of converting people to your views, you will only create stubborn people who will grow to dislike you for it. Or just not pay attention to you.

We interrupt this program to bring you a bit of Mars info:

The Martian ice caps are mainly made up of "dry ice" (frozen CO2). They are not potential water sources (well, the Northern ice cap does contain some water ice, but not too much).

If there are any large quantities of water left on Mars, they must be somewhere underground.

Also, I'd like to point out that this whole discussion is irrelevant. If God is omnipotent, does He really need to go to the trouble of making actual water and waiting for it to do its thing when He wants to add a little artistic touch of water erosion to a planet's surface?

Posted

Thanks Gob, that's quite a coincidence to have a conference the same time I made this thread.

Ignoring TMA's offtopic irrelevancies.

Edric, ok God is omnipotent. So, why didn't he just snap his fingers to make the world empty except for Noah and his family, instead of going through the flood ordeal? I just thought it'd be possible that he could have done it more than once.

Also, if God just snapped his fingers to make it erode, what would be the point? Look at the moon, craters on all sides, and yet we can only view one side, why did God make unnecessary (to us) things?

not offtopic, just questions that you dont like. the fact that you dont answer shows that there was a sting in them you didnt like, It would be nice for you to answer, but if not then its okay. :)

you have never been one to be keen on relevency.

Whether it is "relevent" to the topic or not for you, it is for me, they are simple questions and can be answered. You have gone on tangents without any purpose for the thread at hand, but you seem to have a bias towards my posts. If you cant answer my questions, then that must be true. You bark at others in unrelevent discussions in a thread from people like Caid who give good points, but when I make a point, whether it is good or bad, you dont read into it. It is just a matter of respect. So I am kindly asking you, will you respond to my questions? I believe they are important to the discussion at hand. If you cant... well it slams another nail in the metaphorical coffin for me.

And what cracks me up is this, you asked where mars plays in the whole scheme of the bible. Well if you actually read the bible, which you have openly said you claim ignorance on the subject, you would see that the fourth day is the revealing of the relfecting and illuminating heavenly bodies. Mars was apart of that, the rest of what I said had to do with why it could be done that way. You are capable of reasoning, answer the questions.

It isnt off topic, read the modification to the post I made, clear as crystal? probably not for you, but it should do well enough. just relax with the typical philistine-like responses and answer the questions silly.

While no direct mentioning of Mars, it does refer to heavenly bodies. Wow, that had nothing to do with what I am talking about. I'm not talking about where Mars could be indirectly referred to in the bible, I'm talking about where Mars fits into the story, because as I see it, some big flooding must've been going on for that erosion to happen, and that's a story that seems important.
Satan eventually fell, destroyed the surface of the earth out of spite.

And this has to do with Mars...how?

erosion is bound to happen anywere, on earth alot of erosion has a occured, carlsbad caverns was created by erosion, alot of cliff's are products of erosion.

erosion is bound to happen anyways

oh and erosion isn't just formed by water, it is also formed by particles in the wind and several other factors.

Posted

And that would be the wind of what Martian atmosphere again? I'm no planetarian, (is that a word?) but if I remember correctly, Mars doesn't have an atmosphere (anymore?). And there can be no wind where their is no air to blow. It's like the moon. Did you know that astronaut's footprints are still up there on the moon, perfectly preserved? There is no wind to blow them away, so they will stay there in their original form forever (or until something crashes into the lunar surface and scatters them).

Posted

Scytale, any erosion on Mars might be attributed to an early atmosphere, or even a bombardment of asteroids and comets, but that would take more than 5,000 years.

Posted

lol...

The fourth day talks about creating all heavenly bodies, that is an indirect refference, and probably one of the only references to mars you will find in the bible. Read my posts! lol

Also, Mars does have a light atmosphere. And acriku, instead of questioning the bible on the mystery, why not try being constructive and searching for the solution of the mystery. You are like a kid that constantly sticks your tongue at another kid for the most immature of reasons. good gravy.lol

Proving my point, that the bible does not mention the story involving Mars. Question is, why? What is God hiding from us about Mars? He knew we would see it sooner or later, actually he knew exactly when we would see it, and knew that we would see the erosion, so why didn't he tell us? It's a huge mystery, and questions the literal translation of Genesis even more so. Where does Mars fall into the picture?
Posted

how is mars important to humanity in the grand scheme of things? it might hold importance at some other time, but not now. It effects the solar system, and is important to it, but it is just another cog in the machine of the universe. so what?

Posted

If it is going to important to us, which you said it might at some time, God knew it would be at that time, so why would he leave us in the dark?

Also, finding answers to God's mysteries sounds like a thing that would be important in the grand scheme of things.

Posted

er why Mars? what about Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto or Saturn.

so whats any of what you said got to do with the Bible?

The history of Man's relationship with God/Christ? a guide to faith. not a planetary guide. ;D

Posted

Why Mars? Because it's the easiest example, and the pictures of its landscape are abundant.

I was making this thread for the people who say the Bible has all of the answers, and that it is the word of God.
