I am going to have a english project at school, and have considered two themes The British Empire and Death Penalty. Which do you guys think I should pick?

historical I thought about. I could decide myself. the project could be about anything related to an english speaking country.

the british empire is a good topic.... what are the 3 most inportant things we have given the world.

the english launguage , democracy ,and soccer.

english .. geographicaly the most spoken of all launguage.

democracy.. america,canada,australia,south africa,new zealand, the list is endless,imajine if these countries would have been muslim.

If you want to write less,Death Penalty.It has less stuff for you to write about but if there is a word-count requirement,take British Empire.

Those topics are *really* broad. 5-10 pages may be enough for a light brush over of the death penalty (although i suggest picking a particular aspect, such as social implications, the process, or problems with), but "The British Empire" is *really* broad. You're suggesting that you want to sum up at least 250 years of WORLD history in a *5-10* essay. In short, it won't have much content. Further more, you'll still need a thesis if it's any sort of serious essay, and "The british Empire" isn't much of one(remember, it's an essay, not a history book, or a light recap of history that you're writing). You need something to DISCUSS in the essay; a point to argue: "The effects of foriegn rule in British Imperialist controlled India were profoundly negative for the development of it's social health." Or, "British piracy on the high seas during the late 1700s and early 1800s was a just and highly benificial means of collecting income for the Empire's coffers."

Basically, you need to pick an opinion to argue, and attempt to convince the reader that you are correct.

and I guess Death Penalty is less to write about...but I don't think I will choose it.

the british empire is a lot of stuff, I should maybe find a small subject within the british empire which I will have to think about

Spanish civil war or blacks right campaign in USA or the history of the KKK[what does it mean] :O

dunno about the spanish civil war. does that have anything to do with english? and the black right campaign in USA and KKK I don't find very interesting. I find rasism uninteresting.

british and german fighting in africa during WW1 is more interesting though. I have never written about WW1 before maybe I should

hm...if I wanted to write about litterature I would do it in the norwegian subject, since Norway too has very very many famous writers.

nah uninteresting. wars though is interesting. perhaps I should write a neutral project about WW2 where I do not take any of the sides.(I tend to take the soviet side) and I would look upon the second world war as just a war between equally strong compedators, and not care about nazism or communism.

I was more thinking of slave labour as it were in the middle east and such, where there were slave markets and such, but no matter. this is not what I am going to write about.

I have to decide today, and I think I will write about the british empire...or maybe the british war in afghanistan, or something in WW1.

well not from settlement to empire I want to start writing about it from the industrial revolution till today with maybe some background stuff first.

I can write about all the good the british empire did to the world. and look away from all the bad things it did, since every one else has written about that.
