"And that is why I have come from the lands of Izuck, as the Emperor have begun a campaing to retake Sealand, but the forces he use are so vast that my huskarls, though brave and strong, will make no diffrence. So insted I have come here, so that we might pool our forces and focus on the east, for the Izuck can surely handel the west."

There was monstrous noise radiating out of the human encampment as ship after large ship was put out into the water. Then catapults were dragged onto them and men soon entered the cargo bays, ready for the battle. A sense of urgency echoed throughout the base as the full 350,000 men got aboard boats and began to travel out into the waters, surrounding the island from all ways.

After the new alliance had seen the light, the archbisshop took king Ragnar to the generals headquarters where he introduced him to general Angelus, who would share him in the planned strategic actions.

"Scouts have found pockets of human survivors in surrounding areas, but their defenders are mainly disorganised rabbles. We will send out troops to reinforce these towns and tutor them in use of basic combat skills and tactics to set up effective militia forces, so they can help us take back the cities near the Citadel that have fallen under the demon incursion. After that we can be sure the peasants in this region can carry out their work peacefully, otherwise we'd run out of food and supplies in a matter of time.

Eventually we will raise new soldiers from the liberated cities wich we will need to take back the lands to the east."

"Your huskarls are reknowned warriors. They'll make excellent tutors for the liberated peasants- if you agree with the devised plans, that is."

The battle had already starten when the Riders reached Sealand. This would not be a good time to revendous with the Izuck forces. The leader of the Riders get onto the deck of the transport. He looked for the flagship of the Izuck landing forces, then fired an arrow towards it. It landed right infront of the commander, carrying a message.

The Fenris Riders are now under your command until our Khan returns, sent a ship south and you would see us. May this be done stealthily, we don't want to be sighted.

Before the attack

Latarodectus Hesperus shared a child with Nagos. They sat opposite each other around a small stone table, perfectly placed so that the screams of the closest victims echoed around them.

"Of course I can always make time to see you." She grinned, nibbling a wrist. "And anything that could aid us keep our land is of course welcome news. Tell me, what have you found?"

High above, at the very pinnacle of the highest spire, two lesser spider demons stand guard over their latest weapon. A small blue sphere hovers above a pentangle, mini white lightening flashes briefly inside. It is almost ready for the first strike...

As the Izuck troops began to clear the little woodland outside the two great spiked walls, they were always on the lookout. Each party had at least twenty men in it. Of course there was always one...

"Aaaahhhhhh...." The man sighed, as he relieved himself behind a tree. He had been dying to go for ages, drank far too much before leaving. He turned to get back to his party, hopefully before they noticed he was gone. He pushed a branch aside, and walked right into a web. He easily broke through it, cursing as he did so. Loudly and colourfully. Until he felt just the tiniest itch on the back of his neck... He reached behind him, and squished the tiny spider that had landed there. Smiling, he pressed forward, this hadn't been there before...

Another itch, this time a spider bit his face! Cursing, the man squished it too. Only to find another five on the same spot. And then his neck itched again, and grew heavy. He reached behind, and then screamed as he drew his hand back, it was covered with spiders!

Trashing frantically, the man beat his neck and head, never noticing the billions of spiders that dropped from above, or crawled up his feet. They slipped through the gaps in his armour, poured through his clothing to the warm skin underneath; and they bit and they bit and they bit.

Not many people know that every spider is venomous. It's just that few are deadly to humans. But when that tiny ammount of venom from a normal spider is multiplied by tens of hundreds of billions...

They found nothing. Not even the armour. No bones, no skin, nothing. Not even his sword. They tracked his footprints, but found nothing. They just stopped dead, in the centre of a massive web. A web that stretched around a quarter of the island, and seemed to be growing...

The attack begins

"Attack me will they?" A tall, dark figure at the top of the fortress shouted as the wind began to pisk up. He wore a black robe, the resident half-demon of human magics. He watched as the boulders flattened the old town below, and the arrows set fire to the wreckage. Good thing there was nothing of importance there... He sighed, and turned to the blue sphere. It was almost time...

"Open ports!" The shout rang across the castle as sections of the fortress slid aside to reveal dully gleaming metal.

"Fire!" Twelve gigantic cannons fired, and eleven balls of burning brimstone exploded from the barrels, coursing across the sky to explode on impact.

"Reload!"

Further up, another port slid open, a far larger one.

"Fire!" A ball of white shot from the black depths, flying across the sky to burst open above the ships. The webbing drifted down. Thick as cables and just as strong, and stickier than the worst glue. It floated down to envelop some of the craft.

As the soliders who weren't fighting fiercely glanced up, they saw a white mist rise from the places where the five thunderbolts had struck. They cheered, as smoke always meant a fire.

Looking up, they neglected to look down, where the sea was turning darker...

"You think that idea of yours could help us now?" The spider demoness asked Nagos as she accended to the command centre. "And someone see what those damn vampires are doing about this!" She paused, "I sense... a spell... They're enabling themselves to hit non-planar foes. Idiots. We don't have anything like that. Just demons and spiders and humans... and everything in between..." She scuttled on, her eight legs whirring as she hurried up the wide steps.

A small house spider that had somehow ended up on one of the ships crawled out of the nook it had lived in and scanned the area. With magically-enhanced senses, it could see two wizards ahead of it, and beyond them the fighting men. The spider retreated back into it's hole. A channel opened through it, and a female voice travelled through to the two wizards...

"Tell your master that we have no intention of giving up our ground, but neither do we have any interest in his. Leave us alone. We are content, and so should you be. You have no business here. Should you cease your hostilities and leave now we shall not pursue."

Brutus finally arrived at the Royal court a few hours later. Strangely his fatigue had completely faded by exitement of meeting the grand leader of the Izuck empire, and assured his escorts he didn't need any sleep before meeting with the king. He properly kneeled before the king as to be expected, and made the following offer.

"My lord, the forces of hell threaten us from every direction and the prospects are not good. My superior, archbisshop Justinianus sent me on an errand to ask you that we coordinate our strategies together."

In the Citadel the same evening, the final preparations for the campaign began. Till deep into the night armourers and weaponsmiths worked hard to forge the necessary armaments for the militia force they intended to raise, food supplies for the soldiers were loaded upon carts and many more things were taken care of.

Early in the morning the sun rose, and all was prepared. 5,000 order soldiers and the 1,500 huskarls from Ragnars kingdom left the Citadel walls to find the pockets of human survivors and help them take back their homes, located in the 3 large cities around the Citadel: Razaal, Rhom and Kelthos.

(I'll let Sard write the battles for these cities (if he's willing). I'll still post but I won't have time to write any epic battles for the next few days)

"Don't you get it? You fools!" The black-robed semi-demon laughed as the boulders, though better aimed, still fell hopelessly short of the fortress. "You're going to have to get closer that that!" He laughed, and then saw the sky. Worried, he turned to the blue sphere. It was close, so very close... Snarling in impatience, the demon threw an underling over the wall, it screamed as it plunged.

The white mists rose, and fell again. The demon-ish man grinned. Who knew spiders could fly?

In a process known as 'ballooning,' millions of tiny spiders sent out steands of silk that caught the wind and took them off. They couldn't guide their flight, but he could. The winds shifted subtley, dropping trillions of spiders onto the two previously webbed warships. The crews screamed, as the attack begun.

But the whispers of the chanting grew... And soon the blue sphere would be needed. The lightening haad not yet struck anything important, and the fortress itself was well grounded by eight long webbing-shaped metal coils, that ran to the ground beneath. Latarodectus Hesperus hadn't just rebuilt this fortress for its looks.

The cannons were depleted. Misfires had taken out three of them, and the remainders were too hot to be used for a long time. They were hidden again, and the slots closed up. But the webbing trebuchet was just beginning, as it prepared for another shot.

"There really is no limit to what we can do..." The black-robe smiled to himself as he watched the seas darken. "How ironic that some worship a man because he can walk across water when all along spiders can do just that..." Then he frowned, and smoothed out the waves slightly. He couldn't afford too many accidents.

dust scout come on......

This is midevil aka pre gunpowder, and your forces have gotten larger than all of Izuck in a matter of weeks....

Er... hello? This is for comments or IM, not the thread itself. Everything i've done is suitable for the period. Misfiring cannons included. As for the vast force, it was there already. There are billions of spiders around all the time. The difference is that they're working together now. And as for the ballooning and water-walking? Both perfectly possible.

I just happened to choose a very versatile animal.

Have you a good reason why dragons would obey you? Why dragons exist at all? In fact, they don't. I specifically IM'ed you asking about other races and you replied that there were humans, demons, and vampires. And that was it. My spiders are simply animals under the control of a demoness. No rule-breaking there.

It's 'Medieval.'

And spiders existed at the time. So did cannons. Nukes did not; orcs did not, and Sauron certainly did not.

And nobody summoned anything. The spiders were already there. How many times do I have to say it? They are ordinary spiders with a directed mind behind them. The only summoned things are the giant spiders and they haven't even been seen above the surface since Sealand became Arinaedi. Everything I have done is perfectly legitimate.

Ragnar stood between Razaal and his assembeled troops. He could see the city was no longer much of a city, the walls were no more than ruins, and of the dreaded demons he have not seen many. perhaps only 50 or more.

So he led 500 huskals into the city as the first wave. And After an hour or so, Ragnar had taken the city, and sendt 51 demon heads in a large sack back to the citadel.

(OOC: I doubt gunpowder was invented yet even in the East in this thread...Also, only newborn spiders can do "ballooning", and even so they can't cover such a great distance, like from Sealand to the Izuck fleet you've mentioned.

One more question, is Islam founded yet in this thread?)

The situation is getting worst for the Izuck fleet. Thousands and thousands of spiders had gone airborne to destory the fleet and it's crews. Their numbers were so great that they had covered the sun...

A lone transport closes the small fleet of the Fenris Riders...

"What are you all doing here!"

"Khan! You're..."

"Answer my question! Do you wish to ruin the name of the Riders! Why hadn't you lead our men to join the battle!" Qilan was enraged, and he cut off the leader before he could speak. "Order all men to carry their bows and get to the deck at once! And bring any barrels of oil, wine, or whatever flammable to the deck! Now!"

The Riders hastily gathered onto the deck of the transports. Qilan had notched three fire arrows and drew his bow, as his men follows.

"At my command! ......Fire!"

The flaming arrows were fired simuantously, heading straight towards the crowd of spiders in the air. It looked like a firewall from far. As they went through the cloud of spiders, a cloud of fire replaces them.

The spiders were so great in numbers that their silks were entangled in the air. Being highy flammable and accompainied by the headwind from the demons, the fire spread quickly, killing loads and loads of spiders in the air.

"Second wave! Fire!"

Another barrage of flaming arrows head for the airborne spiders...

At the same time, a messagener from the Riders had boarded the Izuck flagship, carrying a message with him.

Lord Kalan,

Order your mages to cast the thunderbolts into the sea to take care of those damn insects coming from the sea. We will take care of those from the air.

Khan Qilan

Finally! Someone who'll actually do something about the problem instead of just whinge about it. [OCC: Spiders are arachnids, not insects; they can cross seas by ballooning if the wind's right; gunpowder was around for centuries before the American Civil War; and like I said before, it's 'Medieval,' not 'midevil.' ]

With the airborne fleet completely destroyed, the black-robe dared not launch another. He couldn't afford losses like that. The sheer numbers... He glanced as the first of the water-borne spiders began to crawl up onto the ships. "On second thoughts..."

The fortress shut down. The slots snapped shut, the pinnacle was covered by sliding stone. Everything shut up tight. The wind began to blow stronger.

"If there's one advantage to being on land..." The black-robe smiled, "It's having no waves around..."

The day after Ragnar's recapture of Razzal, a huge army of 15.000 demons had surroned Razaal, and now a week after 1.000 order fighters were dead, but the demons loses were far greater, atleast 5.000 of they lay dead. But time had run out for the defenders, they had eaten almost all of their suplies, and the demons were still out there, So Ragnar had gathered his huskarls for a fianl assault, a final desperate bid for victory.

"My huskarls, when the demons enslaved our people we lost our honour as we were not there to protect them. But now we will redeem our selves in the eyes of the gods, as we will now strike a great blow to the demons. On the plain outside of the city stands 10.000 demons, until now our allies have held they off, but now we will smite them as Thor smites the giants. We shall fight and win, for the gods and our lost homeland"

In the ensuering battle the huskarls charged fearlessly the suprised demons, and won an overwhelming victory slaugthering 10.000 demons, while only losing 300 huskarls.
