Is anyone else planning to go see this movie when it comes out? And since I seem to be one of the few in my area knowing it even exists, here's a description from IMBD, and the official site link

Alex Bernier (Ledger) is a member of an arcane order of priests known as Carolingians. When the head of the order dies, Alex is sent to Rome to investigate mysterious circumstances surrounding the death. The body bears strange marks on the chest which may or may not be the sign of a Sin Eater (Furmann), a renegade who offers absolution, last rites and therefore a path to heaven outside the jurisdiction of the church. Alex enlists the aid of his old comrade Father Thomas (Addy) and of a troubled artist (Sossamon) upon whom he once performed an exorcism. He soon finds himself plunged into a mystery only to find himself at the heart of it.

Off to go see it if I can get tickets in time once I arrive at the theatre. I'll post a hidden text review later if I see it.

The Order is an interesting piece of cinema. It combines elements of religious and philosophical debate as well as a semi-healthy dose of violence and gore. The ability to portray heresy in such a light was somewhat interesting.

That was for a summary of sorts, now for some spoilers...

The idea of a Sin Eater was markably interesting, and they did a good job with him showing his history. He was also interesting, in the fact he was immortal, but wished to die. In fact he was rather suicidal.

Honestly, having the Cardinal be our dark source of information made an interesting twist. This was a nice touch, viewing himself as the Third Age, the first being the Old Testament, the second being the New Testament. He wanted to make the Catholic Church an empire once again.

Also, the heresy of the Sin Eater was very nicely done. Saving souls, yet damned himself. Damnation in return for saving, taking the Church's place in absolving sins. The symbolic use of the Eucharist of Communion in this heretical absolution was a good touch. However the sins appeared a lot like calamari to me.

I rented The Order several months ago

That's the wrong "The Order".

This one is made this year, and is released in USA long before it ever reaches the shores of Norway...

this movie has got trashed by the critics as bad as any movied ever has. the average scientific professional score for "The Order" is 19%. the average scientific professional score for "Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star" is 35%. scary!

The Order is horrendously bad. it was not even screened for critics (all good movies are) so as they couldn't review it in time for the opening. but the reviews are out now. it's utter crap.

Not entirly true Navaros. First, while it is more likley than not that a film not screened for critics is going to be horrible, it's far from certain. Ebert himself named several great flicks which weren't screened for critics on his show the other week.

Also, Dickie Roberts is only getting 19%, while The Order is only getting 12%. In other words:

Dicke Roberts:

Reviews counted: 91

Fresh: 17 Rotten: 74

Average Rating: 4.7/10

The Order:

Reviews counted: 34

Fresh: 4 Rotten: 30

Average Rating: 3/10

The Order also has the disadvantage of being a horror film. Critics don't like them very much.

I haven't seen it, probably won't until it comes out on video.
