Can anyone help me please when i'm playing online on wol, I start a game and then it gets slower and slower,

I have it on game speed 8 all graphics on low shadows off.My opponent said he had no problem with the speed.

I can't understand what can be causing the problem ?

my pc is an AMD K7 1.3 Gb nvidia geforce mx440 AGP 128 MB.I have an ADSL broadband modem, Mcafee firewall.

Virus protection disabled. My page file is set to 999Mb

max size.

I can't think what else I can try to solve the problem,

if a guru knows the answer please help.

P.S. running Windows XP Pro.With DX9 .

I have also the latest detonator drivers from nvidia installed.

I also checked that my opponent had his graphics on lowest.

Thanks

A.M. :(

If they are saying no the game isn't slow for the same game you are saying IS slow, they must be used to it. In which case duke is probably right. You may be used to a faster game because of the pc and setts you have. They on the other hand probably have a slow graphics card and/or connection, or they are lying about their game settings.

Example: When I first got online I was playing with dial-up. I would get in a game with guys who had cable or dsl, they would say wow this game is slow...and I would agree, but think to myself, this is normal, nothing particularly slow about it. Since than I have upgraded to cable, and have noticed a remarkable difference in game speed.

I would recommend you keep a mental log of who the other players are when you're in a game that lags. If you know 2 of the other 3 and have never had a problem...it must be the new guy.

another problem maybe causing it: a new virus, this virus send it self to other emails and so on and on.. which makes the internet slower, and slower.. my friend had it and i noticed that from hour to hour the games we played went slower.. so be aware of this virus!

if you are talking about a point where the game starts running at about 2 - 5 FPS --- then that happens to *EVERYONE* some times. it is caused by buggy WOL coding. your system specs, connection, or those of the other players has *nothing* to do with this at all. even if you all have the fastest system on the market, this will still occur

i've seen this happen with all kinds of players right from day one, ie: Thoxen, right down to the current crop of newbies.

the only solution to this bug is for the losers to quit the game. once it starts, it will not remedy itself until a new game is started

i personally think it has something to do with the fact that there is not a unit cap in Emperor and the reason games like War3 and AoM have unit caps is to prevent such occurences from ever happening

i guess the game gets "overloaded" trying to keep track of every unit all over the map as they move/die/new units are created, and once the overloading happens then there is a "meltdown" of sorts which begins this lag process

i see this as a worthwhile price to pay for having no unit cap. this bug probably happens to me in about 7/100 games that i play on WOL

True, almost everyone complains about that issue with Generals as well..
