Is this and the 'normal' pledge to the US flag compulsory for those of non-US citizenship?

It always seems to be for foreign exchange students at least.

Bah, the whole idea of this pledge of allegiance makes me sick. If we had something like this in Romania, I would refuse to do it, or I would recite the Internationale in a low voice while everyone else is saying the pledge of allegiance.

The only "nation" I pledge allegiance to is the human species. The only flag I pledge allegiance to is the Red Flag. The only symbols I pledge allegiance to are the Holy Cross and the Hammer & Sickle.

Well, now that I look at it, it seems rather short. I definately couldn't recite the whole Internationale in the time it takes to say the pledge. Maybe just the chorus (is that how it's called?).

"So, comrades, come rally

And the last fight let us face

The Internationale

Unites the human race."

Hehe, I just couldn't resist posting it. ;D

One time in high school, the Danish exchange student sang the O Canada with his mouth full of crackers. A good time was had by all!

But besides that, Texas can't secede. Nor will they. As much as they conspire about such things, anyone with any political sense knows it would be pointless to even try. Secession is outlawed in the US, and the rest of the country would band together and stomp Texas to a fritter. Unless there's a Bush Imperial Army in the wings somewhere... ;)

You got the wrong idea, Acriku. What makes me sick is that school kids are made to say this pledge.

I mean, just look at this: "One nation, under God, with liberty and justice for all". WTF?? Nationalist religious propaganda in schools?

Really... my style is to sing "Twinkle Tkinkle Little Star" during ANY pledge/song that is imposed (even if I agree with it). But since I was a shy person as a kid and now feel all the apparatus doesn't reach me, I disagreed while still singing it and would now perhaps just interiorly smile.

I think pledges to something specific could be replaced by pledging to what YOU believe in.

It isn't required to be said, but it's expected. I skip the under god part, but say the rest. 'One Nation, under Canada' is a good alternative ;)

hmm, I really think that there is too much idealism fused in many of these statements. Speaking as if things were the way we say they should be, that the world would be a better place. that because people are told to speak a national anthem that it is a degredation of human rights... beh Edric, you dont even have any involvement in this issue, yet you treat it as if it were some personal fight for victory. You express passionately your views in thought that you wish to change things to your idea of rule. Now if anybody confronts you with this like I am right now, you suddenly get civil and soberminded. then tell me that you were by no means trying to do what i have accused you of. Why dont you admit who you are edric and what you are trying to do? You are a fanatic for some silly cause, focused around archaic ideas of long gone fools who had no real touch of reality. You should stop speaking so vehimately on issues that you cannot do a damn thing about. It first of all drives some people crazy, and it also lowers you to the level of an acriku. Some agenda filled freak who wont stop in a crusade.

Sorry for being so blunt, it just gets old man. We have talked many a'time on instant messanging programs and you are probably one of the smartest and wisest guys I know. You are also a very strong and devout christian. It is just that the crusade stuff gets old.

This is about all of the agenda stuff you write and say. It is always there, in every post almost. Christ didnt teach some sort of social gospel, because frankly you cannot believe in humanity. that is one of the major flaws you have. it will be your undoing if it continue.
