There is no such thing as a "new" Europe. Those countries have always been there, and the fact that America didn't even notice those countries until they were looking for support doesn't make it "new".

Personally, I'm not sure whether Bush really is a religious fanatic or whether he simply uses religion as a way to whip up public support and get more votes from naive Christians.

What makes you so sure?

I find it hard to believe that he cares about anything other than himself. And his buddies from the oil companies, of course.

No Caid, old europe is France and Germany. The new *Europe* which Rumsfeld was supporting in countries such as Britain, Spain and your own country

For me it is everything on west of Labe... ;D

"New Europe" is a term invented by the Bush administration in order to make their new lackeys feel good about themselves while they kiss Bush's ass.

Just like New Labour is a term invented by Blair to make the party members feel comfortable under a non-socialist leadership...

The problem comes when more than one group believes that they are acting on the will of God and so are indestructible, then they shall likely both be willing to test their theory to destruction.

To be sure, Taliban, first victim of Bush's imperialism, is a religious organisation (see their name...), and called their fight a "djihad". War for believe.

EdricO, we were more on US than francogerman side even before Bush ;)

First of calling England and Spain for the *NEW* Europe couldn't be more wrong in my eyes.

Secondly the war on Afghanistan seem to be more and more retal on Al-Qaeda and not a liberation from the Taliban. Yes the taliban is gone, but the restauration of the country haven't even begun yet, and it seems like we all forgot about that.

and Duncan, your posts are just so full of insight keep it up, it will get you far.

Why should every methodist or anglican automatically hate catholics? Religious hate is agenda of some wahabistic fanatics like bin Ladin, for me, as well as other christians, no matter if catholic, orthodox or protestant, there is only "love thy neighbour".
