If it comes at all. They might decide that the God emperor would be too hard/costly to do and so not do it at all. :-

A movie/miniseries would be interesting and possible, all scifi would have to do is increase the budget. Get Steven Speilberg to direct and it would be a success. Both dune mini's were successful, add Steven, and you got a winner!

But the first one was a bit Lamo. :-

I was brought up on that mini, and thus I think it was very well done.(Directors Cut DVD = very good ) Although if they made a few minor changes it would have been MUCH better.

Have you read the first Dune book? It is quite similiar to the mini.

the mini may have more of the facts straight, but the costume design, acting, set design, screenplay writing, cinimatography, directing and almost everything else sucks compared to the original 1984 david lynch version of Dune. I still really liked the mini though, so it should show you how much I love the original.lol

no you wouldnt want spielberg to mess it up like he tends to do at times. I think his directing is cliche and boring, but he has done some good stuff.

I think Alex Proyas would be the best director. He did stuff like The Crow, and Dark City. I think that his writing is actually pretty good, but where he is a genius is his directing. He has a talent for bringing out moods that would only come from reading sci fi or fantasy books. I mean the movies he has made are very surreal, almost like living comic books. he just brings out an edginess and off beat feeling in the stuff he makes.

I don't think God Emperor of Dune is a good book to make a miniserie of it. Perhaps one episode. But there happens to little "movie stuff" to make it a mini serie.

And GEOD isn't so good as the 2 previous books too. ( :D)

you mean the 3 previous books of course ;)

I thought that since they had made one about children of dune they would also make the other books...I haven't read the book so I wouldn't know how difficult it is

More than enough happens in GEoD to make a miniseries. There was quite a few very animated scenes in the book. A lot of it was very philosphical as well, and a lot of that might get lost in the process.

Look, people. There is this thing called 3D. One of my friends is good at a 3D program, one that big companies sometimes use to make 3D and effects. Leto II wouldn't be a bigger problem to create. The no-ships? Take a look at "I Spy", at the secret airplane, the cloaking effect is apparently pretty easy to make.

But, I've got a feeling that they will make all Dune books into miniseries. Who will re-create the whole series to movies? Well, don't "rely" on Speilberg too much, they do mistakes too. I'd say: throw in Ridley Scott or Jim Cameron when they decide to adapt Butlerian Jihad to movies, hehe...

Actually no. The the miniserie was about those 2 books, which I was refering to. Dune book is the best ofcourse :)

That's my point, you can't put only philosophical debates in it. Maybe they are interesting, but once on the screen they are boring. Because everyone interpretes them on their own way, and a book can give you the choice but a miniserie/movie can't.

It must have "action", that means real action, debates which determin the rest of the story etc.

I re-read GEoD recently, and I found it to be a very interesting, deep, good read. But the first time I read it, I absolutely hated it. Why? There's a lot of meaning, but not much real action. Not to mention the fact of the difficulty a character like Leto II makes. A giant worm with a human face is not difficult, but try to give that worm a personality and you've got issues. I'm afraid too many people will look at it and automatically make Leto a bad guy without understanding the Golden Path. I don't think it's the type of movie that would be good for today's culture, especially for "newbies".

On the other hand, if you made a miniseries out of Heretics/Chapterhouse, you could make the first third all about the God Emperor's reign, and how it affected the future, 10,000 years later. Perhaps a narration, like in the original miniseries.

I'm sure the network administrators would have a fun time with the whole "control the universe with sex" ideology... ;D

they should skip all the novels in between and head straight for heretics of dune and chapterhouse:dune since thats where all the action is god emperor of dune will be boring as a miniseries
