Demonology, a great heresy to many of the Christian Faith, but why? The study of demons was quite common during the Middle Ages, and was constantly a source of information.

What are your feelings about this heresy?

I wouldn't know. I've only posted a topic on something I've begun looking up info on. I'd ask the monks of a few centuries ago...but they kinda...died.

the Bible is very hardcore about only worshipping the one living God (or in the New Testament, other parts of the Godhead) and no one / nothing else.

Leviticus even says: "Thou shall not permit a witch to live" This is a direct commandment to execute anyone who does witchcraft. It's the same deal with demon-worship or study.

there's lots of forms of demonology still around today ie: horoscopes. although most of those are just generic schlock with no real meaning.

the Bible is very clear that all of this leads to Hell and those who do it should be killed.

It depends on what you define as demonology, and why you are studying them. If you are a christian, and you want to know what a demon is, and you study to find out what they are, I dont think that there is anything wrong with that.

But demon worship, or studying demons so you can achieve their power and abilities, is bad.

If they're going to hell, why the rush to kill them?

so they don't corrupt the minds & souls of others while on Earth and drag them to Hell too, i suppose

Demonology isn't heresy. Heretical was only demon summoning. Demonology is for christianity like cabala for judaism, altough cabala has much wider "use". Christian theologists hadn't thought too deeply to mysticism, but some did, i.e. Johann Wier. Problem is that very common view on evil is that we think about evil not like an existing force, but as only lack of love. Pope presented for example comparing Light/Darkness theory last october, I think.

It isnt talked about much in christianity. My dad was an exocist when he was pastoring. All pastors are told to do so in the name of christ when needed. He does not talk about it, says that it isnt for tittilation. He gave me a few things though, he said that if I saw what he has seen, there would be no doubt that the spiritual war exists. Seeing people levitate, seeing the people open their mouths to an o shape, and speaking in various languages, one time a man who was praying during the exocism (you always have a prayer group) translated one of the languages spoken. It was very fluent and said some of the most perverse things I have ever heard. blasphamy to the highest. You arent to let a demon speak though so you tell it in the name of christ to quiet. they will mutilate the host body, they will create visions to frighten. Their whole objective is to make the exocist fear and become distracted, so that they will turn away from God's power and become useless to the exorcising. My dad told me that exorcism is absolutely nothing though, and is a ploy to those who are "primitive" believers. Satan changes with the religions of the times. Those who worship gods, or forces of nature, deamons will appear as gods or forces of nature. If people are worshipers of technology and things that abolish superstition, he will appear in different ways. This may seem silly, but get this.

a study was made and about 90 % of the cases of UFO sitings had a confermation that the people who saw them were directly involved in teh occult, or related to a person heavily influenced in the occult.

It is very real, but not of importance. A deamon that foams out the mouth and shows gruesome figures of himself is not the real danger. They arent because they are the visible enemy. Be scared of those deamons who possess world leaders, and hide in rationality. It talks about it in daniel. Gabriel had to fight against the deamon that was charged to possess the prince of persia. the battle took two weeks to finish.

There are some books out there that talk about deamonism. kirk koch is probably the greatest of the authors. He was a pastor/psychiatrist. He was well known and well respected in the field all over europe. From england to his homeland, germany. He dealt with many many cases of deamonism in germany because it was rampent in the 30's and 40's. Especially in the black forests. if you truly are interested, check his books out. He has actual case studies, hundreds upon hundreds of them. most of them documented by other reputable people as well.

I showed my physics teacher who is a buddhist (athiest as well.) this stuff, he told me that it is all true. That in his opinion there is some metaphysical level to our evils. that if a man murders somebody in this age, then in the next 500 ages, he will be murdered. That if a man slaughters villages and towns, they digress to an even lower form of life, the lowest being demons, and other creatures that are abominations to many (but not all) buddhists. Most of the buddhists and the various denominations believe in deamons, and in fact there are more buddhist exorcists than christian ones.

they shouldnt be killed nav, they will recieve their judgement in due time. christ came to make a new covenant. One in where he would judge. One in where sins werent an issue as they were in the old testament. Now that all have their sins washed away, it is their choice in this earth to accept or deny. till then it is their own free will.

Ah, but studying something and worshipping something are very different. I study math, but I don't worship...well, anything.

Excellent point Duke. Perhaps if someone had cared to study alleged "witches" in the middle-ages, society might have avoided the horrible cruelty thrust upon innocent women, if not for the ignorance being perpetuated.

How does one "study" demons? Aside from watching episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, of course. Historians believe all the witchcraft paranoia was started by female herbalists using plants to heal. Apparently some thought it was some kind of dark power and that it could be used for evil...

Somehow it got all the way to the point where anyone accused of being a witch was thrown in a body of water. It was said that witches float, so if the victim swam to the top they would be 'convicted' of witchcraft and burned at the stake. If they didn't float, they drowned. Fair, isn't it. :(

In fact, vampires were slavonic pagan demons. Even that way of their destruction was derived from ancient slavonic tortury. Most dreaded tribal commanders were executing their opponents by throwing on large wooden picket.

In Bible there are only few points of witchery and demons. Only small points about Leviathan, Lilith, Lucifer and some kind of goatmen. Also all in poetical parts. Most of demons were native traditions, dating to pagan times. If you study Bible (have you ever heard of atheist theologists, DukeLeto? what about Acriku?) you won't find much, try Quran or apocryphes, there are plenty...

By the way, TMA, in which church do you are, when your dad was an exorcist? What we call "demonical possession" is some way of soul error and only priests are allowed to repair it...
