  1. ...your favorite painting is Thatched Cottages at Cordeville by Van Gogh
  2. There are two short stories, right?
  3. I wouldn't consider any of them more of a tyrant than Shaddam IV
  4. The quote doesn't say that. It says if you CONTROLL NOT CONQUER the past, then you COMMAND THE FUTURE
  5. They are absolutely not funny. Is this the guy who took over the old Dune2k adress? He hates dune and posts pokemon pictures...
  6. It is true. Think about it: If you control what happened in the past, then you would have shaped the future. In that way you could say that you command it. You create the events in the past when you are in control, because the future comes from the events of the past you would command it. If you command, or decide what happens in the future, then you would decide what people think happened in the past. If you did not control the past in the future, and you command the future, then you would have conquered the past because of the first statement. The past decided something for the future, but now you control the future, therefore you have conquered what the past intended with the future. This is my understanding of it, don't know how much sense you can make of it :P I don't know how much of a philosophic weight this statement has been given, though
  7. You are wrong about what Kane said. It was: "He who controls the past commands the future. He who commands the future conquers the past."
  8. Many things taste great with cinnamon. Try it in cereals for example :) ...you drink less water, in order to not be waterfat ...you say the lithany against fear, when you are afraid
  9. Seems interesting. I am looking forward to reading about the Jihad times, I always thought there was kind of info-gap between Dune and Messiah... not bigger than between CoD and GEoD though :P Still Dune and Messiah are so closely connected, that they would leave many unanswered questions. Such as the magnitude of the Jihad: How many Fremens were there compared to the number of planets they went to?
  10. Yeah, your goal MrFlibble can be to reach 1000 posts today ;)
  11. I have read: The Butlerian Jihad House Harkonnen House Corrino Dune Dune Messiah Children of Dune God Emperor of Dune Heretics of Dune Chapterhouse: Dune Hunters of Dune Sandworms of Dune
  12. Sorry only read the first part of that last question. They are independent individuals. There are 12 types if I remember correctly. I know that face dancers could not be reactivated. In BSG one of the human machines managed to break free from her programming, and went against the machines to save a human. Of course this could be part of the game, and in the machine plan, but that remains to be seen. Anyway, I suggest you rather watch the show yourself instead of asking me all these questions. I don't think i can come up with more than the three similartities listed previously ;)
  13. yes, and it seems the most active forums now are the General and Politics forums. We need more people posting in the Duniverse forum :)
  14. RM - reverend mother A.G. - after guild OM - Other Memory
  15. Hi! Every Reverend Mother could consult the Other Memory. But noone could consult the male line, except for Paul, Alia, Ghanima(?) and Leto II. Murbella would not have to go through Odrade in order to consult Other Memory. Through Sharing, Murbella gained the whole female line from Odrade. Hope this answered your question
  16. HoD - Heretics of Dune CHD - Chapterhouse: Dune HoD :P - Hunters of Dune SoD - Sandworms of Dune
  17. yes as you asked in the first question, they do. Untill they are activated. no
  18. I thought we were talking about the new one. Haven't seen the old one, is it good? I agree Andrew, new one is one of the best sci-fi series I have ever seen. They are starting a new season next month, right?
  19. If they could do it to Dune I guess they could do it to other planets as well, in one or another way. Of course those millions of planets, does not exclude those terraformed. But you must also keep in mind that humanity is spread over many galaxies, so I guess there would be close to unlimited numbers of planets. But since you do not believe that the empire was multigalaxtic, then what about this: If 0,000001% of the planets in the milky way galaxy were habitable, then there would be a million planets. EDIT - Sorry this is a wrong number, I only calculated one planet per star. On average I am not sure how many planets there are per star.
  20. the robots are still there, but they are soldiers. the enemy is known through the humanlike-machines . To me it seems like you have seen an entirely different program... is it BSG from the 70's you meant?
  21. How often do you use those abbreviations? If this is a thread for newcomers to understand them, then you are only confusing them. I thought this was supposed to be the abbreviations we use when discussing here, not the ones used in the books? ???
  22. quit dragging out specific points in my post, and see them as a whole instead. >:( And here is a picture of the cylons in control in BSG: Those in the background are the soldiers, and if you have watched the series you know that the human-like machines are those in control.
  23. yep, we should write our own articles and not copy from wikipedia
  24. I do not see the relevance with your example, other than this one similarity. The thinking machines in BSG are infiltrating humans, just like the face dancers. Please watch the show, and you will see what I mean. So to sum up, we got three similarities, which are quite specific: 1. They infiltrate humans 2. They are sometimes not aware that they acctually are machines/face dancers 3. Their true nature cannot be detected by humans This is not a general idea found in many sci-fi stories!
  25. Do you honestly think so? I agree that it is a possibility, but I find it unlikely. Do you think HM are gaining planets which are not habitable?
