Really? From the moment I first heard of the Preacher I figured it was Paul (I actually read CoD second). I never doubted that they would somehow bring back Paul, although after reading the book jacket of CoD and seeing the title of the next book, God Emperor, I figured it would be GEOD that brought him back. Paul is just such a great character, so well developed, so multi-deimensional, so powerfull and so flawed at the same time. Thrust into a situation he didn't want but had to accept. Him and Myrddin Emry's from Mary Stewarts Merlin trilogy are my favourite characters ever.

I read Dune Messiah second. And when Paul walked in the desert at the end. I thought he was really gone. But when I read the first chapter in CoD with the Preacher, I didn't doubt that it was Paul

I also thought he was gone after finished Messiah. I think they only suspected him being Paul when he first showed up.

btw. when discussing this further, please hide text which might spoil any of the next dune books. ;) and I have not read further in cod either.

I think it was about as subtle as a Rhino wearing a pink Armani suit with the Eifel Tower replacing it's horn :P

Yeah, to me it was pretty obvious. First line with the Preacher, it was apparent to me.
