I havent been online for awhile for a great reason!

I just replaced my old geforce 2 mx and 330 celeron processor with a new machine completely.

I have now a kt266a epox board with 256 mb of ddr 2100 ram. I have an AMD atholon xp 2100 ghz processor with that.

an audigy sound card.

A geforce fx 5200 video card.

it isnt the ultimate, but its great!!

Somehow I fail to see the tech-support question in your topic. ... ???

I'm not going to lock it, the fact that you have a AMD processor whould be punnischment enough ;)

Hope you gon'na enjoy your new computer though. :)

hmmmm aha, ok... i see the problem now... okay. Let's see, so you're saying that your computer is absolutely fucked up and that it is not by far as good as they promised?

well let me explain. You just bought a hopelessly worthless computer. That processor, and that graphics card. Oh man, you have been ripped off.

I'll give you my adress so you can send that old garbage to me. Perhaps i can trade it for a high end state of the art commodore 64.

Adres is:

the geforce fx 5200 is cheap and almostas good as the radeon 9700. It kicks ass because it can perform many many more functions than most cards out there. most people give the fx cards a bad wrap because they are lazy and never really tried to read that the 5800 was the screwed up one. you may laugh but I have an 11000 on 3d mark 2001. that is a damn good score.lol by the way intels are pathetic, and the only use for them are for horribly ugly looking keychains. yucky green.lol

and by the way gryphon loosen up with the powers you have, I have posted stuff like this before and nyar didnt mind. you dont want to bring up that whole newbie mod debate now do you? ;) hehe

I think Gryphon and Flameweaver dislike AMD processors. I will admit they are not the best, but they give excellent performance for a reasonable price. Nice to see that you are willing to do your own upgrade. Maybe you should have posted your new system stats in the hardware news thread instead of starting a new topic. The hardware news thread is where Nyar posts about systems he is building. Be warned he does not like AMD much either.

True, I dislike AMD. I would never lock a topic in here though, just as long as it has to do with tech stuff. Im not that harsh :)

heheh, i was just kidding. You're score is good, and definately better than mine.

And number6 :) i'm a fan of AMD, i was just being sceptic for a sec, as the topic's tech support value was barely 5% anyway :P

I see. I thought you were dissing the AMD's speed by offering a C64 in trade.

AMD all the way man, why shell out twice as much for only a bit more power. Although, if you are wanting top of the range (2.5 gighz plus) then obviously Intel would be your only choice. This is what comes of a product monopoly....

you are right number 6, thanks for being nice about my mistakes homeboy

hmm... shouldnt have said homeboy.hehehe

AMD's are great, and right now they seem to be doing just as good or better than intel chips. I love to hear arguments with intel fans about how they claim that their chips are faster, and they only say that because the number says that their chips have a higher amount of gigahertz. The only problem is is that AMD goes on a different number system and so often it is the complete opposite speed wise. You also have a lot of testing software that is biased towards intel.

The only arguments that are truly valid for intel is that they run cooler and are more reliable. They are great chips but are so damn expensive! and ugly too. hehe

Sorry to say TMA, there's no argument that you can throw in that de-throwns Intel from it's current number 1 position.

Especially with their increased FSB, their capability of running Dual DDR400 + ram and ht functinality, their whooping AMD's ass. Even the new AMD Barton 3200+ isn't capable of keeping up with the lower 800FSB processors. Notice that no where I mentioned any Ghz. This is cause it's not needed. If AMD doesn't act soon, they'll loose the gain they made/had/have on Intel.

The funny thing is that there is less of a difference in performance between processors when you use Linux and open source software, which is what I am leaning to more each and every day. With open source and Linux you can build the code you want to run specifically for the hardware that you have. Microsoft intentionally only compiles there code with optimizations for intel processors and when your OS is built to favor one processor over another there is no way to fairly compare performance. I am not saying that Intel does not make the better chips, because they do make the best. My point is I don't want the best and good enough will do for me. If you compare a top of the line Intel against a top of the line AMD processor you will see a difference. I never get anything that is top of the line and a medium Intel Vs. a medium AMD processor perform basically the same. Plus it's good to have competition. The only reason to need the best is to play the cutting edge PC games which I am tending to stop playing nowadays because I see no real benefit of these new games other than incremental improvements in graphics. I want to play games that have new play mechanics and are fun first. I am not saying I don't like eye candy, but I am seeing less of a reason to get the latest video card/processor to play the latest PC games. I know doc_nyar is into gaming heavily so it makes sense for him to want the best processor/video card.

yes totally about open source software with OS's. As a matter of fact I partitioned my harddrive so that one of the OS's in my hard drive is windows 2000 professional, and the other partition has Linux installed on it, just kinda neat.

@ TMA_1

If this is your first dual boot system, you might want to make shure you have a backup bootloader and / or backup boot disks for both OS's. . just in case ...

my bro did that for me, he has his own little business concerning hardware and software maintanince. he knows the most out of anybody I know.

Indeed, it's very good to have competition, that's why I hope AMD will strike back !

They will soon with 64-bit processors cheap enough for everyone, which Intel doesn't intend to match(because they don't think there's a market for it)...

However, they're currently on 1. place both in 32- and 64-bit processors.

Who's they ? And I do view Tomshardware a lot. Check out the hardware thread ;)

"They" is Intel. Sorry for calling Intel "they". :)
