Clapping During Presdential Speeches is ANNOYING!!!

argh! i hate it! it's so obnoxious!

The Pres reads a few words of a speech that he didn't even write, then there's clapping for the next 60 seconds. He reads for another few seconds, and there's another 60 seconds of clapping! That is certainly one of the most annoying things to ever be on TV.

The President of USA and Americans need to GROW UP and stop tolerating the ridiculous clapping atrocities. In High School political speeches, they say "save all your clapping til the end" but why should High Schools be forced to do that when the real President of USA doesn't need to do that?!!!

I agree, they clap too much, probably more than he does talking about his speech. They are a bit to patriotic..oo their president said words..everyone claps...no one clapped with Rick Mercer was talking to him and made fun of him on "Talking to Americans" (a show that makes fun of americans and how little they know about Canada)

Actually I was laughing too hard to clap.

"Would you like to be on top of peter mansbridge?"

"Yes I would" says an american..lol!

I think they are caught up in the moment. Is it everyday the Commander-in-Chief comes to your ship and gives a heart-welcoming speech?

I think you're going way overboard calling it an atrocity but it does get a little tedious. If it's going to be like that it should be shorter. Ultimately I think the responsibility lies in the speaker's hands. He can move through his lines faster, or not deliver so many "punch lines" or both. Either that or not wait for the clapping to stop and just continue reading...This is where that new digital TV fastforward could be of use.

LOL gotta find a way to bitch about everything.

But somewhat I agree that it is sorta annoying. They should clap at the beginning and at the end. Possibly if he sais something really great and significant worthy of applause than it would be approiate.

Well I believe it is just done out of respect to the top dog of our country. I believe it was something started along time ago and ever since it just became tradition. (Personally I never watch a speech because of it.) Every word said by the President is supposed to have a profound affect. As for school though, you could be the president of your class but teachers and the staff of the school still hold higher rank than you and they will dictate when the appropriate time to clap is. Life wasn't mean't to be fair.

it does interrupt the flow of the speech, and distracts you from what he is saying. It wouldnt kill them to wait a little longer between clapping intervals. ::)
