Emperor Harkonnen
What would the Bene Gesserit do if they met Darwin and he told them how we once were animals ;D
nampigai
don't you think they new this?
Emperor Harkonnen
nope, they are so focused on religion that they probably ignored that thought.
Vanguard3000
They knew they came from animals, they just believed that they had surpassed any other animal because of their ability to override instinct.
nemafakei
They are not a religious order, merely perceived as one, because they manipulate religion.
ilexatrei
I believe they do not know this. Because of the great expanse of time they know only snippets of what they believe society to like. So it is plausible for them to not know any of the theories that are brought up in this time period.
Emperor Harkonnen
didn't they forgot a lot of their past after the butlerian jihad, why shouldn't they just forget other stuff too like theories
nampigai
They have "other memory". and as for religious, they form religions for their own benefit, I don't see them as religious fanatics.
ilexatrei
As we have seen, other memory is not exactly very reliable. They do not want to go in too deep because they will be pulled into insanity. So there is no possible way for them to go back that far. They can barely go back a few millenia without going nuts.
Gunseng_Harkonnen
It would be more like Tleilaxu didn`t know it, cos they were more religiuos.
Emperor Harkonnen
yeah but the Bene Gesserit always talks about the stuff about being human. but in fact we are all animals.
Emperor Harkonnen
the BG should learn that it is human to fail. and that real humans don't need to be perfect, as they think. There is nothing more human than to be weak and helpless.
nampigai
they are shaping humanity through breeding and religious manipulation, surely they would have known where we came from.
Andrew
but would they be able to go that far back?, also the animals would have primitive brains and thus the bene gesserit may not be able to remember the animals.maybe they only remember up to a certain point when humans evolved, even though Leto II knew Adam (or Eve) which just complicates everything making it that a God created universe adn not evolution, or maybe the bible refered to a non God created Adam (just some guy the writers knew), and thus Leto II would know him. nampigai
I'm not saying they would share other memory with amoebes and fish. But surely they would know of evolution.
Andrew
I'm not saying they would share other memory with amoebes and fish. Emperor Harkonnen
it is scientific proof that Adam and Eve really lived and were the first humans. I cannot give you my sources, since it is a magazine, and I do not have a scanner. But it is true.so there is nothing wrong with Leto remembering Adam. TMA_1
frank does not talk much of what the suspected origins of man are in his universe. From what I have read though, it goes towards a more religious aspect. This goes long before the bene gesserit existed, the C.E.T. in my opinion established the idea of a "creation" from the basic united ideas of the major religions of terra. Based on the paramount concepts of all religions, they created a universal idea of creation. It also mentions many ancient religious leaders as actually existing as well as myths that we have disproven or are skeptical of. Though the prequels go into evolutionary matters many, many times, frank doesnt say too much about it, but there are a few snipits here and thee.
