I got myself a $600 dollar computer back in 1998, with 100 dollar-rebate. Maybe because it was cheap, I don't really know, but they f*ed me up with the tower. The wires inside are all soldered in (or so it seems) into the cd-rom, harddrive, floppy, etc. I pull as hard as I can and they don't come out. On the cd-rom, I pulled so hard that the wires pulled out of the plastic holder and totally screwed that up. Also, the motherboard is screwed on the side that doesn't come out, so some of the screws are blocked by drive holders, and thus can't get the motherboard out. I can't get the cd-rom drive out of the holder because it is screwed in on the other side which I can't get to which is the same side of the motherboard which I can't get out. So, in summation, I f*ed myself with this piece of sh*t.

Anybody have these problems with HP Computers? Caveat Emptor...

never had one... I heard they were a waste of money to buy...

sounds like you may as well buy yourself a tower, and just build your own comp from scratch... or you could try a site that I have had many friends get comps from it's called:

http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/home.htm

if you click on either the athlon or pentium configurators, you can make your own top of the line comp for a really reasonable price compared to pre built comps you find in a store for more, plus you can take out things you don't need like moniter (drops price a lot) or things like that that you have a perfectly good one already.

there is another site:

www.alienware.com

this site is basically, from what I heard, the same thing as cyberpower, except it's a little more expensive, I think mostly because their cases look kooler.. ;) ... also I heard their Area 51 computer is their best selling one, but I have never used one...

Me Elite? Not at first, but I get curious you know? Plus, if I wanted to upgrade I wouldn't be able to.

slapy I f*ing love you man. I checked out the cyberpower site, set what I wanted, and it was only 1200 bucks! Holy sh*t! This seems too good to be true ....

it's no problem, I had seen all these comps and always wondered where people bought them and I finally asked my uncle and he showed me that site and the alien ware, luckily he had done looking around at every comp site he could find, compared all of the prices of things, and never found anything better than the cyberpower comps

Im not that big of a fan of Alienware. Your just paying for the name and i dont know i just feel its not as good as other brands ( Dell ;D) ive had friends that bought alienware and they broke down and were nothing but a pain in the ass. And when i tried it out at Best Buy i dident like how it handled.

I've never used an alien ware comp, I just heard they were similar to cyberpower, although those may have been some biased fans of alien ware or something like that, who want to compare with cyberpower... but I was playing with my uncles comp at his house he bot at cyberpower... omg!! that thing was so awesome, ran soo smooth.. he had the athlon 2800 (top of the line then) in it. as well as an ati 128 meg chip i think 40 gig hard drive, he had all of the top of the line things available in that comp. it was so nice, ran Ut2k3 without a single problem ;D (man that game is fun)

hehe, going for every color of the rainbow? they have options for colors so that you can have an all blue, or all black or all yellow...etc comp you know?

but you never know, my uncles comp was all different colors because some things didn't come in all colors ;)

the one thing I don't like is it costs 5-10 dollars more for a different color of the same thing :(

Yeah you can say I am tired of my 50 shades of silver computer ;) It sounds pretty eye-candyish I guess. Thanks again for the heads up!

Indeed Elite, I'll be sh*tting my pants when I turn this baby on.

I heard alienware got best(fastest) computer of the year award in pc gamer..I have the magazine somewhere. It was fast for the time of december 1999.

And alienware is expensive, i created the most expensive computer and it turned out 20,000 USD....very nice.

20,000 garbage if you ask me. Alienware sux man. I thought it was bad before but now i hate alienware.

Went over to a friends house and he has a new comp , alienware. Spent 7k on it. It looked really awsome........but it wasent

In the hour and a half i was at his house it crashed 17 times and shut down his games a number of times aswell. I would never in my life get alienware. But you live and you learn. People that like alienware just have to learn.

Are you kidding? Alienware is one of the better brands out there. If your friend's machine was crashing all the time I would be wondering what he tried installing on the thing. Also, they do have 3 year warranty support and if your friend is having problems, that are not software related, he should contact the warranty department.

Dell, Compac,Gateway are alot better than Alienware.

My friends computer is brand spakin new. The only games he has put on it is Diablo 2 and UT2k3. He waisted 7 thousand dollars on a piece of shit. He could have spend 1k and gotten a pretty nice Dell or Gateway and have no problems. He is strongly considering returning it to them and getting a refund. My jaw dropped when it crashed for the 6 time in a row and 6 wasent the last as i have said. I opened it up and took a glance and it was slapped together poorly. If this is the kind of quality alienware gives to its customers than they should go out of buisness. Im going over to his house tomorrow to take another look at it. Il give you guys the report some time tomorrow.

Well it could be a fluke you know. What is the harm in your friend contacting Alienware customer service and letting them know about the problems. If they ignore him then he would have a right to be upset. Sometimes things happen and if you just get upset without trying to fix the problem you are being a little unfair. I know a $7K system should be well put together, but I am sure Alienware customer support will try to make things right.

why don't you post us a pic of the inside of the comp, perhaps nyar or someone can enlighten us in "how well it's put together"

perhaps you could even post what things he got in that "7 K comp"... cuz, well that's a ton of money for a computer.. I wish I had that much money right now.. all I have is an upgraded gateway:

-pentium 2 266 Mhz

-32 meg ati graphics card

-somewhere around 300 megs of ram (whatever the max is is about 320 or something)

-40 Gb hard drive

-recently I bought a 15 in. LCD moniter :)

-optical mouse

-erginomically (sp?) correct keyboard

-only 21k (if i'm lucky, 24k) internet

As far as I know you get an AlienAutopsi with it. . and from what I know of them they are pretty good. So I would agree with Number6, try to contact their tech-department or customer care [ if that works in the US :- ] and explain what has happend.

For great computers in the US there are a few companies I know of.

Hypersonic PC, Dell, Alienware, voodoocomputers, I Buy Power, Totally Awesome Computers and Falcon Northwest.

I must say that I don't have a lot of experiance with some of them. Although some with Dell, Compaq and Trendnet. Most of the other company's I know of and have [ little experiance with ]arn't US based.

I dont think alien wares suck, most pcs come striped to you like I had an hp, it had 128 ram, 40 gig hd, windows me( shudder :P) and a 4 mb graphics card, after a few hundred dollars, and a few g-cards, its now a 512 ram, windows xp, and 64mb geforce 4, but its still 933mhz :P. so in total I spent 1600 on htis piece of shit and its only two years old. >:(

but alien ware you can get a nice pc for 2000 and 7k on a pc :O :O damn, he should call customer support I dont think a pc company like alien is shitty. they have gotten best gaming pc three years straight from popular mechanics and pcgamer.

oh I'm getting an alien ware this june, should I reconsider and get a cyber power? my budget is 3.2k

Posted

personally i would recomend cyber power, especially with that budget, because with that you could buy a complete top of the line comp at cyber power... happy shopping! ;D
