Futuristic TBS (GalCiv +MOO3 are out ;-)

I thought it could be interesting to some: Galactic Civilizations is out the 26 of this month (www.galciv.com) and Master of Orion III is already (but bad reviews). We can expect some guy to make a Dune mod on them someday I guess.

Well there are a lot of Dune fans out there, most do not know, OR have not registered for Fed2k. Since there are so many of course we can most likely expect at least one Dune mod on one of the two following games, just as there have been for other games.

Galactic Civilizations is out too now. GalCiv got very good critics, espescially compared to MOO3 (Master of Orion III) which got incredibly bad results. MOO3 is pretty... original. www.gamespot.com if you want to read their reviews. It's something like 65% for MOO3 and 85% for GalCiv.

I bought GalCiv and it's excellent. Maybe the best turn-based strategy I played so far (I played: MOO3, Civ1-2-3, Alpha Centauri, Colonization, Capitalism...). And you can buy it from everywhere since it is downloadable (see www.galciv.com).

Lowzeewee: Yes, since it was completely useless to make a thread just to say this... Lot less lost time for everyone like this.

Besides, I got time to play it and it's really good IMHO. Trading, economy... maybe just the society models that could be more detailed, but the rest is so good that I think it's the best TBS (turn-based strategy) game I've played. Couldn't say same about MOO3 though. It's not awful, but it's just not really great (only my opinion again)...

Egeides, did u buy the retail version of GalCiv, or did u buy the download version ?

I been thinking about buying the download version, but I have heard some ppl finding it slow to d/l (using broadband).

I bought the download version but they are exactly the same except that the download version already has the bonus pack included. With the retail, you'll need to go and download it separately.

Cool 8)

No probs downloading the game ?

None. For me, it went to an average of around 20kb/s. GalCiv is now top10 in Amazone games' command so their server may have more demand now, but they may have ameliorated it.

oi why didn't I see this topic until now?

Well anyway if I was to compare MOO3 and GalCiv I'd say go with GalCiv much easier and IMO more fun to play. And about the Dune Mods yea we just need to push people in the right direction ;)
