Inoculator9
Well, my figures were based on the assumption that they are 30,000, so if they were 20,000 my point is simply amplified.
Acriku
LEGION, IMPERIAL: ten brigades (about 30,000 men). Straight out of the book.
Mahdi
Someone above said there were 10 million Fremen soldiers. that is innacurate.First, 10 million is Thufir Hawats conservative estimate of the total Fremen population. That includes women, children, and the elderly. If 6 out of 13 people died preparing to become Sardaukar just because of the environment, you have to assume at least the same for the fremen, who live in a more difficult environemnt, and then an even larger death rate for fremen males who are constantly fighting someone, be it other tribes or other houses. This is evidenced even more byt eh fact that one man marries many women. This would not be acceptable in a society with equal numbers of men and women, for it would mean that many men have no mates at all. So, figure out of the 10 million Fremen, lets say 4 million are men (which seems genours to me). Then you have to get rid of the fremen under fourteen, which would be quite a few, say a million, and the men over 50, which would be few, say 250,000. So, then, rough estimate, there were only 2.75 million Fremen warriors. This is based on Thufirs rather conservative estimate of a pop. of 10 million. More than likley there is upwards of twice that, which means the minimum size of Muad'dibs army was 2.75 million, and maximum is 5.5 million. TMA_1
remember though, the emperor has to control thousands upon thousands of worlds. not a million, though the emperors always liked to claim so. This would require more than just 50 legions. The fremen only took the known universe because of their primal religious feelings. They won because they had a "living God" among them. This would inspire feats that would defy any kind of logic we have.
Andrew
Yes but intruiging how in 12 yeaars, pauls jihad kills billions if only 3 mill original soldiers.(i know people woudl revert, but still, anyways, couldnt paul say surrender or no spice? would that be how he slaughtered people for no reason? Mahdi
The armies of Paul's jihad would be composed entirly differnt than his armies which defeated the Sardaukar. They would be composed of millions of converts, with the Fremen legions there merely for the most difficult, important battles and planets.
