Why are all mods zip files?

I don't have Winzip so I am not capable of getting any of the mods on this site. Why do they have to be zip files? And not just text versions? Enlighten me.

the reason is that most mods nowadays arent only text based, they have new textures, XBFs etc as well. Why dont you just download winzip?

Files are zipped of two reasons:

Reason 1: By zipping your files, the space they take and download time is greatly reduced.

Reason2: By zipping 10 files, they are bound together in only one file so you can just download one file and then unzip all the files.

i started to work on .exe files for all of the mods, but it will take some time, but really, just go to winzip.com, or go to download.com and search for zip. it will come up with tons of free zip utilities. You have been here in the past and made a couple of mods didn't you? There aren't only .txt files, there are many texture, xbf and other file types, so if you don't zip it, what do you do?
