The American Way: "American History X"

Well good gravy...

I saw this movie and it is now one of my favorites. I already loved Edward Norton and heard it was great so I thought I was prepared. Well I really wasent. This film is gritty, hard, and cruel. I expected some politically correct babble to appear in the movie, but to my suprise there wasent. This film is a little more on the side of reality (If that is possible for hollywood to create) than most movies. The story is touching but also melencholic. You see the transformation from good to bad, and bad to good. You see a family that has finally redeemed itself. In the end though one of the actors says something so true. "Hate carries baggage". It is a sad ending but fit in my opinion for any tragedy. Sadly, we reap what we sow.

Anybody like this movie? I thought it was wonderful and just want some input from your guys' opinion. :)

yup, edward norton messed around with some of the scenes and that really pissed the directer off. Because of it he almost took all of his name off the movie. Glad he didnt though, it was really good.

He wasn't allowed to take his name off. One of the conditions you ahve to follow if you want to be credited as Allen Smithee is that you cannot divulge why you do not want to be connected to somethign you worked on. He was very public about why he didn't want to be connected to American History X, so the Directors Guild denied him permission to remove his name from the film.

whoa didnt know that. sounds like he is either an ass or he needs to read more of the rules that the Directers Guild has. thanks man. :)

Plus he was at that time a virtual nobody in hollywood. It was his first.

[hide]Good movie but I just found it hard to believe that the African-Am (working in the laundry room) would befriend him (Edward Norton's character). And what type of time did he get in prison what was he charged with manslaughter? It seems like he did a year when he should have gotten least two. This is where I have problems with the movie about the characters but the director did have a different vision than what the movie ended being.[/hide]
