Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Well I'm going to log off the net for the day, and continue to try and fix this problem. Let me know if you think of anything. Thanks for the help.Killwithsound.
Guest Identity Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 To be quite honest i havent a clue who manufactures my card.I was analysing Direct X components and found something that i find quite interesting.Look at the file strmdll.dll in both my and X-ray's Direct X components. You will notice that X-Rays is labeled as 1999 whereas mine is 2000 but at a closer look the version numbers are the same.Nyar, number 6 and alley cat are all using the same version of this file though.BTW may I have a list of who's game does and doesnt lock up?[This message has been edited by Identity (edited 07-27-2001).]
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Identity, try to find out where you bought the comp !Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 btw, I have no clue what the file does, but noticed jeromeku's, LivingForADay directx output gives the same as yours and -x-ray's. And for them the game doesn't work either...Nyar...[This message has been edited by Nyarlathotep (edited 07-27-2001).]
Guest alley_cat Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I'm afraid that the 1.04 drivers are just too old, and may not be compatible with too much other games. Untill the tech support will tell me to do so, I won't. If they'll tell me, fine.
number6 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 alley_cat, I play a lot of games and these drivers work great. The newer 3dfx drivers caused problems for a lot of my 3D games like homeworld. So I went back to the older drivers and have not had a single problem. The only game that has a problem now for me it "Shogun: Total War". There is a known incompatability with the Voodoo chipset and this game. When it rains in that game the rain droplets are not translucent and appear as black dots. I have tried every Voodoo driver and none of them fix this. Since to my knowledge new drivers are not being made for the voodoo series of cards I will probably be getting a new video card eventually.
Guest -X-ray Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 alley_cat, you have voodoo3, right?well, i've talked with the "telerom" tech-support once again (they started to recognize my voice already), and i asked them also about the voodoo3 problem on E:b4d.they got a special patch for it, which solve the problem.call them: 09-9712606tell them raymond sent ya =)
Guest -X-ray Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Nyar, step by step, you want me to get this driver:Video Driver : nvdisp.drvDriver Version : 4.13.01.1210?iden... i've downloaded the certified file, but it's still saying the i got the uncertified driver. this is odd.
Guest alley_cat Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 number6, superstitious as I am, I will only use the 1.04 as a last option, and if the tech support will tell me to. At the moment I started talking to them and hope we can work something out. I also have glsetup that I think that works only with the latest version of the drivers. Thanks anyway. :)I called the number you gave me and left a message (since it's Friday today) and hope they will answer me soon.
Guest jeromeku Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I asked this before, but I think it got lost in one of the many threads.Where have ppl installed directx from? In other words... was it 8.0 or 8.0a from Microsoft or did you install off the Westwood CDs?I'm reaching here, but I'm trying to find some commonality.
Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Hello I'm back,I just read through this post and too answer Nyar's question. Yes I read the faq and have been playing E-mail tag with tech support. I don't have virus protection running on my system. The only programs running on my system at start up is explorer and systry. Westwood tech told me to make sure my video card is not sharring an IRQ, I believe they are refering to interupt request. Anyway my card is using IRQ 11, and so is my modem. No conflicts are detected in device manager. Now here is the tricky part, Windows won't let me adjust the resources for my modem or video card. What must I do to change the IRQ. Should I remove the modem and reinstall it, but wouldn't windows give it the same IRQ? I hope you guys know how to go about doing this. Thanks again,Killwithsound.
Guest jeromeku Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 IKillWith, You probably need to adjust it in your BIOS. Somewhere there should be settings for adjusting Plug and Play settings.Refer to the documentation (every bios is different).
number6 Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Killwithsound, Sometimes you can change the IRQ allocated by a device by actually physically moving one of the peripheral cards to another PCI slot in the motherboard. Since your video card is AGP, try moving the modem to another slot. Some older hardware actually use jumpers on the card to set IRQ's and this should be in the documentation for the hardware.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Alley, I just called a friend of mine who also has a Voodoo 3, and he's also running a lower driver (I believe it's 1.05). He has no problems with the game what so ever.Nyar...
Guest alley_cat Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 You know my problem about the 1.05 drivers, and I'm not going to even try the 1.04 until no other option is available. could be that the 1.04 also won't support my computer.number6, can you give me other examples of new 3d games that work for you with these drivers (B&W, Startopia etc..)?Thanks.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 This whole issue with locking up is getting weird..."all my other games work fine with the new card. Max Payne and Anarchy online, as well as campaign mode for EB4D"So, Killwithsound is able to play campaign mode, but not skirmish...Alley and jeromeku are only able to play skirmish and not campaign mode, -x-ray is not able to play skirmish and campaign mode ...ehrr..*has a strange feeling like his head is spinning around*... :)In the meantime, we'll continue...Nyar...
Guest LivingForADay Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I've had a post on this board for almost a month now, stating how I can't play the campaign modes of the game. It's probably quite similiar to everyone else-the screen goes black, then my computer freezes.
Guest alley_cat Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I took the risk, downloaded the 1.04 drivers (which installed fine due to a diffrent installer), restarted, and I was able to play for about 30 mins without the game freezing thus able to finish an ordos mission I was stuck forever in for known reasons...The movies keep freezing though. And I don't know what to do about it. :(
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Alley, would you say you've seen some improvement with this 1.04 driver ?If so, try downloading the 1.05 from that site and install it (if it works that is).Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 LivingForADay, could you post your dxdiag output ?Thanks.Nyar...
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 One other thing, go through the suggestions in this thread, go through the FAQ, and make sure you've put the problem also with tech support. Again, I hope people understand why I ask. :(Nyar...[This message has been edited by Nyarlathotep (edited 07-27-2001).]
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 Does any of you have a Gateway comp and running "Gateway GoBack" program ? I know it's a known issue, but worth a try...Nyar...
Guest LivingForADay Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 I already did in my other thread, but here you go. I do not have a Gateway. I think the problem is my Vanta video card is not DX8.0 compatible, and I have an SBLive Value. One of the two... or both! Guest Killwithsound Posted July 27, 2001 Posted July 27, 2001 Ok, I did what WW tech support suggested, and made it so the video card is the only device using IRQ 11. Still no luck. I'm at a loss here. Thanks guys for telling me how to change IRQs though. If you have any other ideas please let me know.Thanks,Killwithsound.
Nyarlathotep Posted July 27, 2001 Author Posted July 27, 2001 LivingForADay, thanks for the e report here as well. What I meant was, go to start, click on run and type dxdiag. Save the information to your desktop and post it here.btw, loads of people have SBLive! soundcards and it works fine (me inculded)Nyar...
