gryphon
Drop Winzip and replace it with WinRAR.[ consideing you run under Windows ::) ;D ]- Norton advanced system works 2002- Norton firewall and internet security, McAfee firewall [ consumer version not server or corporate, and I can recomend some others but that would go against my own privacy policy ]- McAfee virusscan [ without the auto update-function turned "on" ] mayby another one buth usually one is enough.- mayby Phil Zimmernamm's PGP, but that depends on your needs.OS, if you have a "slower" or "older" computer, just run '95. It's old but you just need an OS and '95 usually works good. Mayby you'll need an extra service pack but I doubt that. But if you can handel it use Win2K or XP.And ofcourse the applications you want, so lots of gamez or just office and database tools. Mayby even video editing but that's basically up to you.:)[ oh, and try to get American product's that arn't for export. They have higher safety and encryption, but do to government controled export laws they can't [ and you can't either ] export them. ]

gryphon
Hmm, could be. The CT [ German computer magazine ] of last month had a special CD with small utils on it. They do that every year, and with the same utils ;D. Didn't look at the disk, it's still in the paper sealed bag. But there is a version of GIMP 1.2.3 on it. And they don't have a lot of Linux programms on it usually. It might be worth a look after all. :)
