Procyon
The aspect of the Sardaukar of the Image was given by the FH books or the DL movie?I`m reading House Atreides and it say that they don`t wear that blue suit with that green visor of the helmet, but they wear a grey/black suit without helmet.http://www.dune2k.com/images/emperor/units/subhouse/ImperialSardaukar-Big.jpg
Inoculator9
This was just there idea as far as I know.
TMA_1
yeah you see, in the books, the sardaukar have many uniforms, but their usual uniform they wear are just fatigues that are grey in color with black or gold piping. Their helmets may be different colors depending on their rank. Itwould be too tedious to explain all their uniforms.lol I suggest highly though a very good synopsis on the sardaukar. It talks about their history, their uniforms, their ranking structure, and a bunch of other stuff. It is in the Dune articles second on the fed2k main page. It is very helpful. The reason why in the Game, the sardaukar look like they do is because they wanted to make a uniform taht looked similar to the one in the 1984 version of Dune. Westwood only bought the rights to Dino Delorientis'(spelling?) version of Dune.
Vanguard3000
Westwood only bought the rights to Dino Delorientis'(spelling?) version of Dune.I believe it's Dino de Laurentiis.
Inoculator9
Yeah, it is de Laurentiis.

Mahdi
If it makes you feel any better, someone on another forum tried to argue that Jodoroski and Lynch co-created David Lynch's Dune.
TMA_1
hehe, man jedorowsky hated the fact that lynch directed a new Dune and thought it was absolutely horrible. And I must say that david lynch could have done better, but I still love David Lynch's Dune the best.
Vanguard3000
I agree. Lynch's Dune was the best.Apparently, when Jodorowski watched Lynch's movie, he gave it a standing ovation at the end because he was glad it was badly done (in his eyes). How could someone who respects a story be glad about something like that? >:(
Mahdi
He didn't respect the story. Remember? Hive mind.
Colonel_Worf
I like the way the miniseries did the Saudaukar uniforms.
Inoculator9
I liked the miniseries uniforms, but the ones in the original looked more militaristic.
nemafakei
The miniseries uniforms were ok, apart from the realism aspect.Firstly, the Sardaukar were a little too Elizabethan... archaic is good, but ot in excess.Secondly, uniforms almost NEVER got dirty! look at the bright red harkonnens - ridiculous! Vanguard3000
He didn't respect the story. Remember? Hive mind.Yes, I remember, unfortunately. The only part of the Jodorowski version (well, the concept, anyway) were the H.R. Giger pictures, and I only like them because I'm a fan of Giger's work. They don't really fit Dune.
TMA_1
And Mobius' concept art. I am a huge fan of his graphic novel artistry. Really creative. I personally like Jedorosky's way of direction too. I highly suggest El Topo if you want to be blown away by surreal artistry. At least thats what I think in my opinion. hehe :)
Vanguard3000
I didn't really like Mobius' work. At least, not in their Dune project. It was too bright, I found. Also, some of the vehicles looked like the Penguin's Duckmobile from Batman returns. ;)
TMA_1
hehehe yeah he is out there... I mean geesh. he is a french comic artist.lol I frankly like his stuff though. To each his own. :)
Caid Ivik
Visage of fearsome Sardaukar was only in Lynch's movie, also I can saz it about D2k, based on it. That band of gays in miniseries wasn't looking more poweful than Pope's Swiss Guard.
Vanguard3000
TMA: I checked out my Chris Foss page again, and it's not quite as bad as I remembered it. Some of these are good:http://www.oliver-faulhaber.de/sf/dune/sonstiges/jodo002.gifhttp://www.oliver-faulhaber.de/sf/dune/sonstiges/jodo011.gif(The one idea I liked about Jodorowski's DUne was the idea of the Emperor living on a synthetic planet. It really give the Emperor a god-like character)But these ones I don't like:http://www.oliver-faulhaber.de/sf/dune/sonstiges/jodo014.gif (too much colour, and I don't like the checks on the inside of the engines)http://www.oliver-faulhaber.de/sf/dune/sonstiges/jodo017.gif (this is the one I was talking about. It looks like something the Riddler would drive. :))These images were taken from here: http://www.oliver-faulhaber.de/sf/dune/sonstiges/dunefoss.htmCheck out the spice pirate ship. When will that ship be in front of the right background for such a "camoflage" to work?
TMA_1
dude vanguard, you hit the nail on the head with the synthetic world, also it is a world composed of the opposites of nature, i.e. him having total domination over nature. No I agree, but mobius didnt design the ships. He did design the "riddler machine" though. hehe I like the costumes. I espesially like the sardaukar outfits. Also some of the symbols for guilds or houses are actually on the money in some ways that you might not really see. Like the guild insignia forming triangles from the zigzags. Vanguard3000
Sorry, I thought everything on that page was Foss. By the way, when I said "my Chris Foss page", I meant the one I have bookmarked, not one I made. I don't know enough German for that. ;)Anyway, Could you send me a page with Moebius' stuff please? I'd like to take a look at them again (I recently formatted my HD, and I don't want to look through stacks of CD's for my Favourites). IIRC, the Spice pirate emblem (i.e. a simplified Blackjack/Jolly Rojer) was well made. It was simple, and classical, yet modernized. Or maybe I'm just looking too much into things. ;)
TMA_1
hehe ;)Yeah here is the site. Orlok actually took this site from one of my friends. He was way too busy with school and stuff so he just gave it to him. go to http://www.orlok.co.uk/ and then look at the upper right corner. You will see Jedorowsky's Dune. click on that and then you will see a section where you click on Mobius' work. :)
Vanguard3000
Thanks. I forgot Orloks page had the Jodorowski stuff on it.Anyway, I think Moebius' stuff is very flamboyant, although some of it is decent (or at least, very interesting). TMA_1
its fantasy remember. You can tell the kind of work he does. He did the art for the units of Dune Generations.
Vanguard3000
I realize that it's fantasy, and it is very interesting (I do like the depiction of Piter as a sort of jester-like figure), but if the movie were to have been made, I don't think it would have worked well on screen.
