I maintain that WW making the devastator into a mech was the worst mistake they made in terms of the look of the game.

Well, just the in-game design they did. With sufficient polys it looks pretty nifty.

Heya all! Thanks for feedback. My computer died, and will be back in two weeks... All my work was written off to CD first though ;)

BTW, all the Emperor units that can be translated into RA2 will make it into my mod :D

I will use the next two weeks for brainstorming stuff for Corrino, and other details.

Re the HK devastator...

I'm very tempted to make it a Mech, maybe with four legs (like the Mammoth mkII from TS). This would set it apart from the AT walkers, but still be a nod in Emperor's direction.

Tanks are easier to do however, and judging from ppl's responses would be more popular. If I did a tank, It'd prolly be wide, heavy and low. A double set of tracks on each side. And the weaponry would be hull mounted, with a secondary AA missile sponson mounted on top off-centre. This would impart a look of mass and power, and would be evocatove of Tank Destroyers.

As for the weapons... I dunno.

Maybe some sort of turbo-AP shell-firing cannons? It would cut though tanks in a single shot. Slow turning, movement and ROF would keep this in check. I'd give it a sensible range, but keep it competitive. Damage vs Inf and buildings would be poor, but the self-destruct would be tasty indeed... ;D

AA missile turret on the top, would also be used for inf (better fire rate and target tracking than the main guns, though still not tooo good against infantry).

This would keep the Plasma based weapons for Corrino. Also, the Devastator would be used for support, acting as a mobile AT bunker.

________________________________________________________________

For Corrino, I have a few ideas. I was gonna make them Siege/storm specialists. So, they would excell at short range, their tanks being designed for a mixture of transport and then support. More specialist vehicles would fulfill the role of seige engines. Exact ideas so far are a bit sketchy, and names are not yet decided. Below is my preliminary list.

_House Advantage; Specialisation._

House Corrino units are highly trained, and ruthlessly efficient. They are driven by a great sense of martial prowess, seeing themselves as elite.

_Infantry_

>Corrino Stormtrooper.

Armed with short-ranged chain guns, and equipped with body armour, these units are the bulk of the houshold troops.

>Corrino Sapper.

Equipped with mines and explosives, Sappers can wire tanks and buildings to explode or lay an anti-tank mine. Acting in teams, they can quickly set up or destroy defensive positions.

>Corrino Engineer.

As the other Houses' engineers.

>Corrino Scout.

As the other Houses' scouts.

>Sarduakar Trooper.

The Emperor's personal Shock-troops, the Sarduakar are still part of House Corrino, even though the Emperor is dead. They fight to the death, and are fearsome opponents indeed. Using heavy chainguns that are effective against most armour; few units can escape their wrath.

>Sarduakar Elite.

The Officer Core of the Sarduakar, they are armed with powerful lasguns. Knives are carried for close quater-work. Only the thoughest veteran Sarduakar become Elites.

_Vehicles_

>Corrino APC.

Heavily armoured and fast, the APC is unarmed. An integral part of the squad of units it transports, special firing ports allow the troops within to fire.

>Corrino Plasma Tank.

The MBT of the House, the Plasma tank fires a salvo of plasma bolts. Designed to support infantry in an assault, escort their APCs and guard Harvesters, the plasma tank is the most versatile mechanised unit - a counterpart to the Sarduakar Troopers of the Infantry.

>Corrino Mechanised Siege Mortar.

Essentially a huge artillery piece, the mortar makes light work of buildings and defences. Although slow, it is well amoured like all Corrino units.

>Corrino AA Tank.

Highly accurate, large caliber machine guns are the main weapon system of the only Corrino AA unit. The crews of these tanks are so skilled, that when a unit becomes elite, it is even capable of shooting missiles out of the sky, albeit at close range.

>Corrino Walker.

These light, stealthy units are used mostly for scouting. Individual Corrino troops can supplement the one man crews in the walkers, using their own firepower to give them some offensive capability. The walkers are very effective souts, thier long legs and broad feet making them sure of the treacherous surface of Dune.

_Aircraft_

>Corrino Carryall.

The same the the other Houses' Carryalls.

>Corrino Gun-Cutters.

Medium-speed, heavily armed ATA and ATG craft, they are used to fend off airborne attacks, hunt unprotected convoys, and support ground troops.

>Corrino Troop Transport.

Rather than Seige Towers to scale defenses, Corrino troops are inserted deep into enemy lines from these transports. They can either land to allow the troops to disembark, or deploy the troops with low-gravity chutes whilst in the air.

To VidiWare;

The styling of the units is going to be closely based on Emperor. I'd love some cameos, but they need to be original. Maybe renderings of the units on their own homeworlds? Or Wire-frame models, like schematics? I'll leave it up to you, but be warned that I have high standards. Though looking at your work, I'm sure you come up trumps... ::)

I still need stuff for Richese...

Although they use cloaking, this would make them *very* similar to Ix in game terms. So either Ix or Richese will get stealthing, but not both. If Richese, then I'll need new Ixian units; if Richese, then I'm back where I started... :-

Any help (generally) would be greatly appreciated!

"Mechs extract from Tiberian Sun" = Cheating; I'm doing all-new graphics!

And a plain stealth tank is a bit of a poor showing on its own - the CnC Nod Stealth Tank was overpriced and feeble. An Invisible MBT is way too powerful for a subhouse, or even anyone! How would you find them untill they attack you?

Cloaking is fine, but I need some original weapon systems to put on these units...

Also, for Ix, I rather wanted to keep the EBFD units, even if their Projector gets a new weapon, and the Infiltrator loses stealth...

And what do you all think of the Corrino list I posted?

Thanks for that tip, Caid, but I'll be using an HVA editor to my own... (there's a theme here :P).

Still, I *may* use them as stand-ins for a bit... Unlikely though.

As an aside, I do have a completely random question, though someone here may happen to know... Which Company/House makes the Harvesters that are used on Dune?

I rather like their styling in the Lynch film, and may base the Richesian vehichles on that style... Anyway, just a thought.

Sorry Caid,I' didn't mean to imply that you cheat.

But as I'm aiming to change as much as possible in RA2, copying from another CnC game doesn't sit well with me.

Not Caid...

But im sure you are chating with those wonderful Voxels :P

How do you make em? they are so great im crying when i tries to make something similar ;D ;D

VidiWare;

"I use Will's vxl editor to make the vxls, and then do the normals in vxlSE (by Will, Plasmadriod and Koen). Any final work is done in the first editor."

That was what I posted a page and a ahalf back 8).

Still the same. Been doing them like that for a while now. Practice is the key, as always. I musta made some 120 all-new voxels now, and with the odd exception all are for Dune or WW2!

Thing is, I'm a RA2/TS modder rather than a Dune2k/EBFD modder, so although I'm doing a Dune mod now, this stuff is relatively easy for me. Whereas all I can edit in EBFD are some small Ini file settings :P

Speaking of mod work, are you doing those Cameos I asked for...? Any progress yet? Comments...? Let me know! ;D

You are true Vidiware. I first breathe spicy air and then in trance I regroup all electrons on disc by pure mind power to create it. ;D

Um, I'm guessing that you're referring to the Navigators, but other than that I don't understand!!

And what do you all think of the proposed lists :D

So all the Emperor units then. In the Style mentioned above. And if everyone seems to like the above Corrino list, then maybe do a few 'concept' ones for them too, okay?

I was thinking more about Corrino units, and reckon that the Guncutter may get plasma guns akin to those of the tank...

And as for defensive buildings, I thought of twinning the (inevitable) Plasma Turret with a bunker. Simply because the units that can occupy it all have short ranged, anti-presonnel MGs, and would be fitting for an infantry-heavy House.

And not meaning to hassle you Vidiware, but my computer is being brought back to me in a week, and I haven't even heard if you are actually going to do them!
