To the Emperor players who have successfully downoaded the map packs for Emperor:

I simply need help. The problem is that after I download the maps and use Winzip on them, they don't appear in the map selection in my skirmish game. I follow the instructions on the readme, but they don't seem to appear in the map choices.

If anyone knows how to remedy this, please reply. Help will be greatly appreciated.

1) download official mappack1 and place it in your emperordata directory

2) unpack mappack1

3) follow same procedure for mappack 2,3,4

4) enjoy and have fun playing the 8 additional maps ( carthag,claw rock,glacier bridge,rift valley,argan point,ab. city,guild complex and fort. canyon )

I disagree with all of this. Where exactly did you download the map packs from? If you downloaded them from this site or from Westwood's site, then the map packs will be in .zip format, which means you will need Winzip or another program that can read and decompress the .zip files properly.

It doesn't matter where you download the map packs to, since they will be in .zip format anyway. (There may be sites other than the two that I've mentioned above that have these map packs available for download, but I don't know what they are, so I have to assume that the map packs you downloaded are in .zip file format.

Here is what I'd do:

1. Make a folder somewhere so you can download the map packs into it.

2. After the map packs have been downloaded, UNZIP them into your EmperorData directory. This should be C:WestwoodEmperorData by default (or in most cases.)

You don't need to unzip the map packs into your EmperorData directory in any specific order, it's just that the numbering of the files means that you will need to have the 1st map pack to get the 2nd one working, and you'll need to have the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd map packs installed and working to get the 4th map pack working. So you can have downloaded the first and second map packs, and have them installed and working without having downloaded the 3rd and 4th. However you can not go and install the 2nd map pack without having installed the first one and expect the maps from the 2nd map pack to work.

The mappacks should work in version 4 but update your emperor game to the latest version by downloading the patch 1.09 anyway. You posted before i modified my answer ::)

Will the map packs not work if it is still in version 1.04?

Actually I think it said in one or more of the readme's that came with the map packs that you must have the 1.09 patch installed in order for the map packs to work. This is because the 1.09 patch adds several maps to Emperor itself.

Yes you need 1.09:

"1) Support for user-made maps. They will appear in your map-selection dialogue box for Skirmish Games & Multiplayer Games. Upon joining a lobby or after map selection changes, users that are missing that map, or have a different version will be given a warning, and will not receive the ?Accept? button."

Any fan-made map w/ Subhouse structures and tons of money/spice

There are 65 fan made maps available, up to you to choose and try them. It all depends what you are looking for.... but yes there are some maps with neutral buildings like conyards that you can capture..

Actually, that is the idea. And if so, what would be the title of those maps? (The ones with the neutral conyards and subhouse structures)

Another question about the maps: did anyone try to put in a Guild Refinery as a neutral structure? (I remember seeing that in the last mission w/ the Emperor Worm and I saw some on the sand[!!!])

Well the only map that I've created that actually has a neutral Construction yard in it is the latest one: City Centre

Ixian Experiment Site has Ixian structures in it.

Boiler has Harkonnen buildings in it.

Choke Points has no buildings in it.

City Centre has a subhouse structure and a complete Ordos base in it, along with various other Ordos structures that you can't build.

Personally, I'd recommend the map: Harko City Starport

I gave it 10/10 when I rated it, as far as I remember. (Yes, I rate all the maps I download. ;)) It has an interesting part in the middle of the bridge complex.

About the Guild Refinery, I never really considered including it in any of my maps simply because I didn't find it that interesting or didn't see any reason to include it. If it's the Guild Refinery you're interested in, I suggest you download the mod: ITDG (In The Destroyer's Grip) by Apollyon.

Important: you have to unpack the mappacks in the correct order: 1,2,3,4. When you mix up the order it will not work!

i did 4321 and it worked. but you cant play until you have ALL if you do it that way.

I can now download the fan maps. Funny, but in packed format, they look like a sound file.

I went w/ your recommendation IxianMace and I downloaded Harko City Spaceport II and also Twin Capitals II: The Tombs.

I don't mind if the structure ain't a con yard, I'm also fine w/ Factories that ain't in my side, since you can build an Atreides MCV from a captured Atreides Factory, Hark MCV from captured Hark Factory, etc... ;D
