Especially Empires. Look at them; Roman, Russian, Ottoman, Austro-Hungarian, German, British, Byzantine (although I know less about this than the others) and that's just the ones I can name off the top of my head. All of them fell. Every single one. Well, the British one just dwindled slowly into the Channel Islands. Given or taken away piece by piece... Either way, there is no way for an Empire to exist without corruption, and corruption inevitabley has brought the end of Empires.

(Although I personally admire some forms of Imperialism...

Bah, the topic is "the Ottoman Empire". We can discuss about empires in general. In fact, we can discuss about anything. The topic was bad to start with. ;)

Ooh, nasty...

In any case. By their very nature Empires are unfair. They are not designed to be fair; and very few, if any, have been.

But nonetheless, Empires have always been the wealthiest, largest, strongest and most powerful forms of ruling. They also last for centuries. Most crumble from the inside, showing that the system isn't perfect, but few monarchies, democracies or communist/facist states can ever say that they could compare with the compared power of the Greek Empire, which in turn fell to the only power that could challange it, the Roman Empire. Which crumbled from within.

That's why some people call America the only modern Empire (*shudder*). Because of wealth, land mass, population size, and other factors.

I also think that the fall of the Russian Empire was a great tragedy...
