I must be modding wrong...

There is probably something wrong with the way I'm programming my mods, because after I add three or four units, the mod works fine, then no matter what I do, after I add another unit, the game 'performs an illegal operation' without fail!! If I don't solve this problem, my mods will continue to be limited to just a few new units at most!! I need help!! Could a good modder please try to add some new units (maybe 2 or 3 if you can, they don't have to be good units, but they must use unique bullets, turrets, and warheads) to the incomplete mod I've attached and see what happens? I can't understand what I'm doing wrong. ??? :O >:( :'(

EDIT: I removed the attachment. I think the problem will be solved soon.

theres no attachment

make sure you are declaring them in the right section.

also try going to the incidental section and just adding to slashes (//) to the beginning of 1 of the incidental declarataions (for instance INYak) then try running the game again with the extra unit added in.

That is the object limit. After a certain amount of units are added you exceed it. You have to delete some units' entries in the Rules, ArtIni, Strings, and Declaration section. It also performs an illegal function when the object limit is exceeded.

I don't understand what you mean by 'object limit'. Do you mean that there can only be a certain number of declared units in the Rules.txt etc, etc? Perhaps the file size of the Rules.txt can't exceed a certain size? In that case, I'm wondering how the Dune Blaster mod was created with all those new units... ??? :O >:(

The Dune Blaster Mod removed almost all of the incidental units. There is a certain amount of units that you are permitted to have. To add more units you have to remove several units completly! From every area they're in. I would suggest the TLINFlyer and the GScavenger as your first candidates for removal, because they wont disable the campaigns. And it has nothing to do with the Rules fiile size.

Thanks for that, I'll see what happens when I add the new units and remove the old units. How do you remove a unit completely? Should I just erase it completely (i.e. delete the information from the files completely,) or just add // to the unit stats?

If the unit is the same then add over but if it's different you need to remove it from the declaration section, Rules statistics, ArtIni entry, and there spot in either the text strings or E_Output_Text_Pickups.

only to the declarations in the rules.

Ok I'll try that and report back here with the results. It's 2:45 AM here right now, and I really don't feel like going through text files deleting stuff (I was sitting here all day yesterday changing stuff, trying to figure this out before I came here >:() so I guess I'll do it later.

lol dont you guys read the tutorials?

I think it might help heh.

I've already downloaded all the modding documents in the Dune Editing downloads section for Emperor Battle for Dune. Half of the time, I'm referring back to them when I forget something, the other half is spent deciphering what they actually mean (in the case of Xbfs and texture editing, which I really suck at right now. :P :-.)

EDIT: I found alphabeta's help file the most useful. I know what the gassed/burnt/blowup things mean as well. ;D

Hmm, that could be the explanation why my mod won't work too. I added more then 2 units there.

Thanks. Maybe I will try your advice

A mod which topic is far down the topic list. The Shai-Hulud mod, replacing the Atreides with Fremen. I stopped working on it when I got that illegal performance message.
