Sharing files of course, and if you need to reformat your comp you don't need to make back up CDs, instead transfer them to the other comp.

And there is no lag for games of course.

-Share files and documents

-Copy programs between harddrives

-Share internet connections (if you have broadband)

-Play games with like 14 ping

-Share printer(s)

-Share other peripherals such as scanner, webcam etc.

do i need a router? i am trying to hook a cable from one network card to another (different model of ntwrk card) without a router.

do i need one (i hope not)?

LAN games allow you to shout out taunts and give strategies on the fly (co-op) [which you also can do with Xbox Live voice communicator...;)]

And routers should only be 20-30 bucks but I doubt you do need one if it just one card to another.

rrr....I'd hate to burst your bubble, but I'm fairly certain you need a router - even for just 2 comps. :-

ah k, so you have 2 utp cards, that is easy. Like you said, you only need to UTP network cards and an UTP cross cable, piece of cake. a hub or switch is required if you use more than 2 comps on the network unless you install multiple network cards in 1 pc
