Often I remark about america in a bad light. I am very upset with how we are acting internationally and domestically. Still though this country is the best damn country in the world. I understand why people are so upset with it but it is amazing. Why are there so many of you guys that hate it so much? is it envy? maybe anger? Anyways you guys preach democracy but there has never been a true democracy. Even in ancient athens when the first "democracy" was formed, it still didnt allow certain people to vote. There has never been a large country that has had a real democracy. We are a republic and it works much better. It gives us freedoms that many nations dont have. They are slipping away slowely but damn it. America is amazing and anybody that disagrees has some mental inbalences.lol Patriotism is wrong because it breeds stupidity. But following and loving the country you live in is the most important thing you can have. America kicks ass. Better than any other nation.

Greece has been taken as the foundation for some democratic rules. But isn't considered a democracy itself. For them Democrasy even was a form of decay of their system.

The only people who "hate" Americans that way are the dictators that are in danger of being removed from power, and subsequently the people of the dictators because they are lied to. I think that, like guys such as emp, you're being too defensive about the other topics. You make bold political moves and decisions, thus there will always be controversy surrounding your nation. Why people are so passionate about it, I don't know. Perhaps it's because you answer to no one.

The point of the other two threads was humor and debate about how the humor evolved, misconceptions of the satire and it's origins, etc.

Also, I don't think you can call any single nation "better" than others, because it's truly a matter of opinion. I mean, you could compare economies, postion on the UN list of best nations to live in (in which you are not first, 13th or 17th actually), GDP, GAP, standard of living and quality of life, but it's still opinionated.

Lastly, I don't think this is the place to toot your horn. If everybody made a post like this about wherever they live, it'd get quite cluttered.

ok TMA_1 you asked if we envied USA or hated it, well I have no need for envy but still that's the thing I'm told all the time, every time a person outside of america says something negative they get "that's because you envy us" back in return.

I live in an ok country, I'm not satisfied with our politicians nor the system, but that's another story. The thing is I have no reason for envy, what. USA IS the greates country in this world when it comes to military and economy, but this also means that they have to live up to their it. Not so long ago there was some meetings about global eceology and how we should all reduse our waste of various kinds. The US denied to sign this treaty as they thought it to be bad for their own interrests. How can it be bad? last time I checked taking care of this planet was a good thing. We now see China stepping up to start to compete with the US try to imagine how much waste will be led out when they all want to have a car, fridge, tv etc...

US has an obligation as the strongest nation in this world, this means that they can't always just do what's in their interrests but also what's in the interrest of the world and the future population of it.

I know this sounds like some lefwing mumbojumbo, it's not I just believe that we didn't get this planet from our parents we lend it from our children.

So TMA_1 no I don't envy you, I feel anger toward your leaders, not the americans in general, just like I don't hate the Germans for what Hitler and his Nazis did during WW2.

One quick remark I just saw the news and now I see why Bush wants to go to war with Saddam, qoute:"....afterall they tried to kill my dad(dy)" so there we have it, it's not some crusade to remove terrorism, this time it's personal.

I want to move to America. In Sweden, there is not much freedom. Yeah, sure, we got democracy... bullshit, this whole country is either neo-nazis, or communists. Mostly communists, of course. If everythin works out fine the next 5-6 years, I'll be an American citizen about 2012-2015, if I'm lucky. Anyways: Go WEST! :)

I have no quarrel with the motives of most US americans, given their positions. The US system may be called democracy, but it remains that the power is in the hands of the monied. This is not true democracy. I am not comparing the US to anywhere else - for example, here, there is also such a problem, to a lesser degree (partly because the US attracts the rich). However, the US is in a far better position to make change for the good, but fails to do so (see 'American Dream' and resulting constitution - aka greed without consideration for others). I am not saying any individuals are so, just that the whole appears so.

But to say that anyone questioning the US is stupid implies you are stubborn in your own view - and so that you are inflexible to reason. This is an untenable position in of itself, even in the unlikely event you are correct.
