Anathema
http://www.dune2k.com/forum/index.php?board=1;action=display;threadid=217correction, he wasn't asked for permission, as he had no idea there was a Dune game. I don't know if he was given any credit.
Emperor Harkonnen
Good work westwood! ;)when you can get something free then get it!!Westwood has some features of Ordos there
Devastator_Mech
Anyway, book says shields attract worms- as do floating engines. So Ordos isn't being very smart using those in the desert.errr...... i live in Australia, and I've been to a book store called Dymocks, and according to the Dune books there, there's no such house as Ordos, but there's a house called Corrino. Anathema
That's true. But that doesn't make it any smarter using shields in the desert ;).
Devastator_Mech
The shield attract worms, but so does other units. Or maybe they're trying to attract the worm then retreat when it comes up and let it finish off the enemy for them. (that a smart idea)
Timenn
Well, shields should drive worms crazy, and they would leave their territories, and attack the shield (any holtzman device)but they made it less in Emperor. And that's no big point. Because it was for balancing issues
IxianMace
Heheh, in my new mod that will be out in like 'a few years' (j/k) ;D, those Ordos shielded units are going to be so attractive to worms it'll almost completely suck having them. :D
Emperor Harkonnen
NICE! ;DThat's the way it should be. and also make the harkonnen infantry be diguised Sardaukar with the sardaukar machine gun :)
Edric O
Hmmmm, I smell imbalance!! >:(
Anathema
Could you possibly give Sardaukars (and other gun infantry) continuous fire like the machine gun post? And splash damage? That would be sweet, and more realistic.
RequiemXi
You know, I don't think Westwood had anything to do with which houses were used in Dune. The original Dune2 wasn't made by Westwood, they just revamped and re-released it.
ethan
Could you possibly give Sardaukars (and other gun infantry) continuous fire like the machine gun post? And splash damage? Anathema
Of course not. Light infantry is plain weak in comparison with chemical troopers. You could downgrade the damage for each "shot", but give it extremely rapid fire, so the overall damage would be greater.
Devastator_Mech
But the point is, don't they need to reload? In general, most SMG's(sub-machine guns) holds only about 30 rounds, so is most rifles.
ethan
ok, i see. but the sards would be able to take out almost anything...but they have big price.
Anathema
In the boox, the Sardaukars and the Fremen are significantly better then anything else (exept swordmasters I suppose) so it would only be fair to make Sardaukars really powerfull. Devastator_Mech
ok, i see. but the sards would be able to take out almost anything...but they have big price. They are not actually that expensive, its only because of their training time. Which thats forever .....
Devastator_Mech
Does anyone know if the Dune2's Sardaukars are as powerful as the Emperor: Battle for Dune Imperial Sardaukars?According to what i know, Dune2 only has one type of Sardaukar .....
Emperor Harkonnen
There are only one type of sardaukar in Dune2 and Dune 2k. I haven't got that far in d2, byut in d2k, they aren't really that good. and acording to the books one sardaukar should take out 10 landsraad conscripts. and a fremen should be able to take 5 sardaukars.
Anathema
In Dune2k, a Sardaukar would lose from 2 light infantrymen ::).
Devastator_Mech
Aren't they armed with machineguns against infantry and rockets against vehicles? According to the description in this site, they should be extremely powerful since they're armed with 2 different weapon for different purpose. Are you sure 2 Light Infantry could kill a Sardaukar? Because it sounds impossible.Supreme Bashar
nampigai
no the Harkonnen was handed Arrakis as a fief from the emperor, they didn't fight over it.
Emperor Harkonnen
And they didn't have the planet for generations. after the richese rule over arrakis the harkonnens got the planet, and afterwards the atreides became the rulers over the planet.the harkonnens had it for about one generation, i think. Anathema
Yes. Abulurd Harkonnen was the first Harkonnen to lead the spice harvesting, later his brother the baron Vlaimir took over. At the end of the original Dune novel the Harkonnen occupation of Arrakis ends- that's all I wil say.
Emperor Harkonnen
I haven't read House Atreides yet. does that book tell about the richese spice harvesting??
