Missing stuff or cancelled stuff from Dune 2000

Ok, but then why a structure?

Or does mission "0" not even exist in the game?

Well it was not "Mission 0" I meant "Tech Level 0" which is the "Tech Level" when you've only got wind trap, refinery and silo to build..

There was another unit/building which was supposed to be available in "Tech Level 0" alongside wind trap, refinery and silo which was removed..

But unfortunately I retract my post about a building in "Tech Level 0" as i don't have enough evidence of it's existence..

Very interesting subject, and it looks so... familiar.

I don't know if it is true, but these are the plausible things that I have heard in the past:

It might have been trolling, since I doubt most of it....

The in game voice chat was still experimental. Some Westwood folks where working on it. And I believe, based on the same technology as they finally used in Starcraft2. But they never had a chance to finish it. After all, almost all the Westwood employs where kicked out. Or left themselves. Most players where using a different method anyway. So EA didn't want to put any money into the development. Since they wanted the game finished asap.

The original Gun Turret was anti infantry. However, for "balancing" the game. They removed the anti infantry variant. And put the name on the "cannon" variant Turret. 1 anti infantry, 1 anti tank and 1 anti air was the original plan. However, there wasn't going to be much air....

A variant on this is that the third turret was the real anti air turret. But then again, not much air.

Ornithopters for all houses? Well, they wanted the Atreides and Ordos have them, but not the Harkonnen. Just like in the original Dune 2. But they didn't know how to implement it yet. And time was short. They only had 1 high tech. And the engine looks like that of Red Alert. In Red Alert you have heli pads or airfields. Kinda a lot of puzzle pieces that didn't quite fit together. You still see an Ornithopter in the Harkonnen cut screen. There must have been some kind of mistake back then. You see the "corrections" in EBFD. Where even the Harkonnen have Ornithopters. Finally they decided to go with the simple air strike variant for the Ornithopters. No missiles. But "grenade" bombs where the choice.

The missing building in mission 0. Might be trigger related. After all, you win each mission by destroying all enemy units and thus structures. Right? If not, please tell me. Is it the default Trigger? If so, I suspect that, that structure dies when the needed spice has been harvested. Does the structure have health, and/or a location outside of the map?

Well you must be 80% right about a bunker/anti-infantry type turret cause gun turret can be easily destroyed by infantry units in a group..

The voice chat was implemented in starcraft 2?? this I should check out..

Ornithopters can be activated for other houses but it'll be buggy..

By the way Ornithopters were removed after they finished shooting Full Motion Video Briefings..

I can try rewiring the voice chat back but it's a 15% success rate give or take..

Well, I am not sure about any of the above. It's just rumours and stuff.

However, I do know that one guy has been switching between EA and Blizzard. You see carriers, shields (SC1) and some sort of blinking (SC2). But which direction he went, I don't know. SC2 was out later then C&C3? And thus the question arises. Did EA games use some sort of voice chat in any of their games? Blizzard however does in some of their games.

The missing structure might be the Barracks.

After all, in Dune2, mission 1 you get information on the use of silo's, while you can't build them yet.

maybe and maybe not..

I just had a brain burst..

Remember my post in "Dune 2000 files research and modding tips and tricks" ??

UIL Files

l{y}{x}mis{z}.uil ( x = 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) ( y = A,H,O) ( z = 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) - Defines the new unit menus for Atriedes,Harkonnen and Orodos

Here we have a missing file for each house..

In the first mission of every house we are missing page three..

Files missing are {l1Amis3.uil, l1Hmis3.uil and l1Omis3.uil}..

These might have contained a common bulding or unit for mission 1 or "Tech Level 0"..

Barracks might not be the building..

C&C 3 does use voice chat, so EA did it before SC2. But maybe there are other Blizzard titles that had voice chat and were released before SC2. Anyway Westwood and Blizzard were big enemies back in the days from what I heard :)

World of Warcraft, has voice chat.

And it was created released before C&C3 was released.

With SC1, I was forced to use other programs.

If not the Barracks, then what could it be?

Slabs, Power, Refinery and Silo are present.

I thought it was the bunker aka Anti-Infantry turret..

Well i can see you guys have played more CnC so if Dune 2000 was a CnC engine reconfigured for Dune 2000 what could have been in that slot where only wind trap and refinary are needed to build this missing unit/building??

Well can anyone say which game could have the voice chat codes of dune 2000??

How is the carry-all programmed into each mission? Perhaps it is the [1] carry-all that brings in units. Or it is the enemy carry-all.

Other missions might have more like these carry-alls. But you don't see it because "the forest was lost due to the amount of tree's".

Was it a turret? Could have been a flame turret since some1 said he found napalm sprites for some flame weapon IIRC. Or just a total new building.

Also I think they planned to have WOR from Dune 2, I remember seeing an entry about that in text.uib. The power turbine seems the least plausible thing...

im wondering if  modified outpost ahs some different functions than normal op ? if you try  add upgrade to  other buldings   , upgrade never completes .

i wonder if text.uib content is  changing when you install patch 1.06 or not if  yes,   whats content of unpatched dune2k would be great  to see contents of text.uib in 1.03 patch

There are also several sound effects left for a fire weapon.

I am pretty sure it's purely a cinematic difference.

English US version. The screen shake isn't caused by hires.

I guess it wasn't enabled on some versions..

But this is broken for all other resolutions..

I know the screen shake is disabled on C&C95, for some reason... might be to avoid multiplayer desyncs when a player surrenders, and it blows up all his stuff at the same time.
