This topic covers the development and releases of the Dune2K+ Toolkit Topic. The aim of the project if you are not aware of it is to develop a toolkit that is the only download a potential modder needs to mod Dune 2000 to its limits. As such, the tools being released all offer entirely new functionality or improvements on previously available functionality offered by other tools. Hopefully the release of this toolkit will allow unprecedented modding and I look forward to the mods that are made :-)

Source Code and Specification Policy

If you need a specification of any file format used by Dune 2000, I will send you all information I have on that format, on request. All source code will be released, either at the same time as the toolkit or shortly afterwards.

Thanks for the link MrFlibble, yeah I've checked it out before, it's a pity I don't have the source code to it, since I've only got R16 files working so far. I might have another look at that program and see if I can work out some of the bits that I couldn't before. Because it seems to me that the DATA.R8/R16 files contain lots of different ways of storing these images. So any program I make has to support all of them, at the moment I think my tool gets about a third of the way through the file before it hits a file type that it can't support. The DATA.R16 for example, you'd expect to contain 16 bit images. Not the case unfortunately, it also contains R8s. The tool currently works perfectly with the tileset R16s. I just need to fix the R8 palette loading and it will work perfectly with the R8 tilesets too.
