Dune 2, the grandpappy of all RTS games, has made MSNBC's list of the Top 5 Strategy Games.  However, it somehow missed the cut on MSNBC's list of the Top 5 Real Time Strategy Games as another Westwood game took its place.

To read the writeup on Dune 2 click here.

So congratulations to those former Westwood employees still floating around out there, your work is still recognized and appreciated today!

Their evaluation of the original Command & Conquer is factually incorrect:

Command & Conquer introduced many of the key elements that remain staples of the genre' date=' including structures that could create technological advances and hero units that offer special abilities and powers.[/quote']

Actually, C&C did not feature technology research - the C&C franchise never featured tech research until Generals, in fact - and the C&C "hero unit", the commando, didn't have any special powers or abilities.

The cool thing is that they actually used a screenshot from Stefan's Dune 2 The Maker at MSNBC ;D

Really?  If Stefan could confirm this we should e-mail them letting them know, so he (and FED2k) get a mention on msnbc.

I bet they just googled dune 2 and we popped up, and they downloaded super dune 2 by mistake....

Maybe they meant that new structures gave access to new units?

The Commando's got C4 explosives :) But he's not a hero unit anyway, since Commandos can be normally built in multiplayer. The proper heroes (unique, unbuildable units) first appeared in Warcraft: Orcs and Humans (Lothar, Medivh, Garona, Griselda).

You mean Dune 2 The Maker... They just Googled Dune II, and the D2TM screenshot pops up as a "Dune II screenshot" on the first page. Here's the site where they got that from: http://wire.ggl.com/2007/11/28/how-to-play-an-rts-game-advice-for-beginners/.
